This little church was originally built in 1858 in the Cliff area during the mining boom. It was later moved to Phoenix, where it still sits and is no longer a parish church, but a museum giving folks a look into the past, at the spiritual guidance during the mining days in the Keweenaw. Michelle Nelson recently made a stop there to check out the little church, which is actually still used for weddings and annually hosts the Blessing of the Animals each July.

The bottom two photos were snapped by Dorothy Jamison, who was on hand for this year's blessing of folk's critters. She captured two young boys and their four-legged friends, who were there for the blessings for the first time. Blessings were given by Fr. Corbin Eddy and Pastor Tim Johnston. The Keweenaw Historical Society sponsors this event at the Phoenix Church and Museum.

Been by this church so very many times. Thank you
so much for taking us inside, as I've never been.

Thank you for a look inside a church which was so important to folks in the 1800's. It's interesting to see what the church looks like!
