Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 - 10:04 pm:

A few weeks back, Paul Nelson was out capturing the Northern Lights and really snapped several unique shots. My favorite is the first one, in which Paul actually incorporated his own silhouette, sitting there enjoying the display. The stars that night, accentuated by the night time glow is what makes this one special for me.

Paul's second photo was captured that same evening, but with different settings and a different camera. He related that he set up several cameras at Sunset Point in Marquette and somewhere around 5:00 a.m., saw a cluster of objects passing overhead, burning up as what must have been an old satellite breaking up as it entered the Earth's atmosphere. Paul felt quite fortunate to have captured it on one of his cameras as it passed overhead. It sure makes for a unique shot!

In the third photo, Paul said he set up his camera with a long exposure to create this star trail image, in conjunction with the Aurora that evening. The length of the entire exposure used to capture those trails in the glowing sky, was 43 minutes.

Paul has a great variety of photos on his Facebook Photography page. You can take a look for yourself by clicking on the following link and while you're there checking out his work, be sure to "LIKE" his page, too.

These are all great but I agree with you, Mary, the first is my favorite....the colors are outstanding, and I love the profile of Paul sitting on the bench taking it all in.
Thanks, Paul, you definitely have a talent for being at the right place at the right time!
Thank you too, Mary, for picking these to share.

Excellent work Paul. Wish I had the time to do what you do...but I'm so grateful to be blessed with gifts in the form of daily income.
Beautiful shots!

Great pictures. Looks like "night on the marge of Lake Lebarge."

I love every one of those pictures. Wish I had seen what Paul saw in
person. The Northern Lights are very rarely visible in Toronto.

Nice pix! The second one brings to mind, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003. A tragic event that is embedded in my memory.
