So much to see over in the Ontonagon area when it comes to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Deb and Ron Simons did what they could to take it all in and still didn't see everything possible. Today they share their visit to the Lake of the Clouds and some interesting items they spotted along the hikes they took in the park.

Lake of the Clouds is named aptly, since you're up at such a high elevation, you feel like you can touch the sky. If you visit on a cloudy day, the clouds seem reachable, too. The day Deb and Ron were there it was overcast, but nothing can take away the beauty of this peaceful lake. The second photo is a dandy, also, giving you a feeling of the walking path along the edge of the mountain as you head back down.

The last three photos are a glimpse of some of the artwork along the trails, natural and otherwise…beautiful, lush ferns blanketing the forest floor, fallen trees that have hollowed out over the years and last but not least, someone's carving depicting the namesake of this beautiful park and the mountains in that region. Deb thought this artwork was fitting as they left the park and I thought the same for ending our visit to the Porcupine Mountains here on the Pasty Cam, too.

Deb and Mr. Deb strike again!!! ;-)

Although at first, I thought the "porcupine" was actually a beaver climbing the tree...... I think I need some sleep now!

Oh wow! I didn't know these were gonna be on here today. The top two pictures are two of my very favorites of the whole trip. I would love to get them either framed or made into a canvas print. But it's getting to where all of our walls are filled with artwork from our trips to the U.P. There's just so much beauty there that you never tire of it all. We saw some beautiful scenery along the M-26 drive between Eagle River and Copper Harbor, too. And even though we stop at the same places every year, it seems that we find things that we missed in previous years. That happened this year in Eagle Harbor and we got some shots that we love.

But this was our first trip to the Porkies, and they didn't disappoint. I still look at the pictures most days and just go back. What a wonderful weekend that was, and even Lake Superior was warm for Lake Superior.

Thanks for sharing some of the amazing things we came across on our hikes. I hope if you haven't been there, that this gives you the push you need to do it. I won't hesitate to go back.

Thanks for sharing the great photos of your adventure. I haven't been there since I was 15 years old, which is longer than I care to think about. Seeing your pictures made me promise myself I would be there again before the first fall of snow.

That's the spirit, Duane. We're never too old to
enjoy these things.

It's been quite a few years since we traveled to the Porkies. My folks lived in White Pines for three years around 1979. That protection of wire and posts isn't anything I remember from years ago unless we didn't walk the spot. I never get enough views of Lake of the Clouds! Such a glorious and simple treasure!!! Must get back there again.
