The Spring (Yes, I said SPRING!) road restrictions started Tuesday, which means the weigh master will be out checking large trucks to be sure they're not overweight. The purpose of all that is because even though we've had such cold temperatures, when the sun comes out and it gets in the 30's and 40's, it doesn't take much to heat up the asphalt and the layers of sand right beneath it, making it easier to be broken up, thus destroying the roads. So in preparation for that the loggers in the Lake Linden area have been piling up their loads of logs on the old carnival grounds, so that they can still haul them out of town when the restrictions are lifted and not have to worry about the spring break-up and having trouble getting the logs out of the woods.

That's my hubby's truck at the end of the piles in the first shot, just so you get an idea of how high the piles really are. It's a Ford F250, so it's a full size pickup. I really like the hollow log and being able to look through to the other side, almost like a telescope only not magnified.

The last photo was taken in the woods where we snowshoe. It's a fox burrow that they've made this winter and from the looks of the tracks around this spot, it's an active one. From what I've read, they usually have their kits from March until May, so who knows, there could be some little ones in that den right now. Isn't it wonderful how nature provides for itself?

Kind of reminds me of Michigan's lumbering era.

Now there's a cord or two...interesting pix and I really like to word Spring!

Good morning!!

Spring!!! It's been in the 60's here. Been
awesome!!

It really scares me being behind those trucks on
the road. Always worried that a log or 2 will
fall off.

Awesome! The Carnival Grounds used to be owned by the
old Bonifas Lumber Company!

Are all those logs headed for the paper mill? My eyes ain't as good as they once were so I can't tell what kind of logs they are.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, March 12, 2015 - 09:35 am:

It's a shame those logs can't be transported by rail. Much safer. Thanks for the pix, Mary.

It looks/feels like Spring has 'sprung' in my area......almost balmy yesterday.

Hard to go against the Porkies for the favourite state park, but I must say Valley of Fire SP in Nevada is an awesomely gorgeous place to visit and really should be much higher on the list.

Porkies are very nice, but I agree Capt. Paul!
