My favorite thing about maintaining this website is the "mini-vacation" we take every day around the U.P., courtesy of an army of Pasty Cam friends, like Z-Man from over Ontonagon way. You may have caught his visit to Presque Isle last week - with Rudolph's red nose. Today's he's back to take us over the edge, down to Superior's icy waters.

I used to look at that water every day back in 1975-76, from the upstairs of our modest little bungalow on Park Avenue in Marquette. Each morning as I shaved, the small bathroom window next to the mirror afforded me a tiny glimpse of the harbor, out toward the loading docks at Presque Isle. That was our only view of the water. I always remember smiling and saying, "What a Great Lake" ;o)

WOW! It looks like it's snowing big time on the bridge! If anyone cares to Fed-Ex a package of snow to me, I'll be glad to pay for the postage!

I wish I knew how to cut and paste a photo... I would add what I see at the bridge here!

By Alex, hoping not to blow the site up with a link! on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 10:51 am:

Alex. Actually what you're looking at is sunshine. It is making the glass thru which its shining look like snow. If you'll check the web site at MTU http://www.admin.mtu.edu/alumni/cams/view/large.html you'll see that it's a beeeeutiful day in Houghton. The effect you see always happens on sunny morings.
Happy New Year to all.........

My husband Gary Curtin amd I and our little son Mike headed to NMU after graduation from Finlandia (Soumi) in 1958. He had GI bill(after serving on the battleship USS IOWA BB61 in Korea) and had an opportunity to go to college. We were on a very limited budget...but didn't feel deprived because we had so much fun at Presque Isle & Shiras pool. It was great fun summer and winter. It is so beautiful.

ACK! Sorry about that! I was green with envy for nothing. MAN! If that didn't look like a furious snow storm, nothing did! Oh well...

Thanks for letting me know about that.

Hello to our granddaughter sharpening their ski skills on the trails at MTU. See you in the spring, Emma and Sylvia. We'll go for the
trout. Love, Grammy Shirley

I wish what Alex was seeing would have been a furious snowstorm, but it's clear, blue sky and bright sunshine here in Keweenaw today! Great pic of the cliffs! Indeed, Superior is a "great lake" :)

My, my, my! I just went on a tour of the past pix from this site. My family and I were in awe. Not only at the beauty of them, but at the professional photography that some of y'all have.

The beauty is too awesome for words. I only touched the surface of the pix from the past, so I have a LONG time to look at more and keep drooling of the day we will be there!

I vacationed in Marquette a few years back on Valentine's Day weekend. There was no snow down here (southern MI) and I missed it, and the UP in general. Didn't get disappointed, plus we unknowingly hit the weekend of the dog sled race that went right by our motel, the Winter Cities fair, ice/snow sculptures in Harlow Park by Russian people who came for the fair (those were not meant to slide down, tho people were. My kids almost got killed. They shoulda had signs up keeping people off them.) plus lots of Valentine dinner specials. It was a good choice for a winter mini trip.

Hi,
Tell my Aunt Verna Kangas I said "Hello" from her niece Jo.

Presque Isle is one of our many favorite places while we are on vacation in Big Bay every summer.
My kids love jumping off the cliff at Black Rock.
This year even the youngest at age 11 jumped off!
It looks like next year we will be visiting more often. My 2nd son has been accepted to NMU!!!!!
The first one goes to CMU. Even though the drive is longer, the sights are better in the yoop! Happy New Year to all!
