You may recall our visit to this spot back in September, courtesy of Taka's Pasty Cam. A different world.

By Keweenawwannabe on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 12:30 pm:

Beautiful scene -- did Taka venture onto the ice to capture this view? it's most certainly a WOW!

By Marvin, Florida on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 12:49 pm:

On Dec 23, 2001 I posted a message on the pasty cam. In that message I mentioned Bumbletown Hill, the place where my parents live. It was responded to by a very beautiful lady who also lived in Florida. She like me also lived in the Copper Country as a child. We spent the last year getting to know each other after meeting on the Pasty Cam last Christmas Holiday. I still live in Florida but she has moved to Bumbletown Hill. In the process of helping her move back home to Michigan and up on our hill we fell in love and are are getting Married this New Years Day up on our hill. What can I say? The Pasty Cam has made me the happiest man in the world. Soon we will both be on the hill with our family and friends.

Marvin, what a nice story. What more can a man ask for? I wish happiness for your wife and you.

By Alice A., Alaska on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 02:15 pm:

If a story can be a WOW, Marvin's certainly is!

By KD, California on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 02:30 pm:

Marvin,

What a wonderful reason and way to return home! Best wishes for much joy for you and your bride-to-be!

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 03:16 pm:

Thanks to Marvin for the nice note. Send us some wedding pictures! And thanks to all who have helped to keep the Pasty Cam coming your way over the years. We welcome one of our newest sponsors, Evert's Motor Sales of Hancock, and recommend "Karla's Trail Report" as a good place to keep up with Keweenaw conditions.

Marvin, that's really wonderful! If I could I would supply all the live music for your wedding! (It simply is too far awy from here where I live.)
May the Lord bless your marriage!

Marvin, much happiness love and joy to you and your wife to be. What a great way to start a new life together than to begin with the new year. I love to visit the UP but I like the warm weather nearly year round in Florida, so I am staying here.

By Tom, Gwen, MI on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 04:27 pm:

Great pictures-- As a youngster growing up in Hubbell I often went to this water falls. We called it the "Bluff" so as not to confuse it with the larger water falls down stream. It was a great place to cool off on a hot day. In the late 1940's the large rocks (bolders) on the right side (in the summmer view) had fallen and made the water pool below the falls smaller -- as it is today. My father often talked of swimming there in the 1910"s. -Sue make you feel at home!

By Melissa, Lansing, MI on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 09:01 pm:

Marvin, Congratulations to you and your new bride!

Hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!

By PK, Nashville, TN on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 10:59 pm:

What a great story. Congratulations.

By JoeBob, Texas on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 09:05 am:

Thanks for the link to Evert's snowmobile rental. I was coming up in a month to go skiing, but maybe I'll take the family on some snowmobile trails.

Anyone have a suggestion for a simple but interesting trial? They have several rental locations - Eagle River, Copper Harbor, Belle Grise, Hancock - where would you ride?

I would guess going up on Brockway Mt. would be neat - but Eagle Harbor has the old railway trail along Cliff Drive. Suggestions for a Texan?

By M.B., WI on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 09:58 am:

Congratulations, Marvin! I wish you and your bride a happy marriage.

My husband and I also met online because of our common interest in the Keweenaw. :-)

Happy New Year!

By M on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 10:34 am:

Gosh Charlie!!! Did you realize you were a matchmaker??? What better common interest than the Copper Country??

By www.deyampert.com on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 11:38 am:

Dear Taka Aoki,
Did you venture out onto the ice as was mentioned earlier? Did you use a tripod for this one? Did you use your digital camera? As Steve Brimm has mentioned in his most recent publication "The Best of Nature Photography" ISBN 1584280840, nature photography is dangerous, please be careful.
Regards,
Donn

By Candy, CA on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 12:41 pm:

Marvin and wife-to-be,

Congratulations and much happiness! There has always been a magic spell over Bumbletown Hill, and I guess that magic is so strong it can even extend to Florida. Now you can go to Florida Location instead!

By Jeannie on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 02:42 pm:

Hello from a Finn in Oregon; I just logged on to Pasty.com because I love pasties and cannot find them in Oregon...! I was in UP Michigan a few years back, got reacquainted with pasties and fell in love with them, again...not since my childhood days in Michigan and northern Idaho have I tasted pastys. Anyway, want to order some and will. Come to think of it, I did have some great pastys in Iron River when I was back meeting relatives for the first time. We moved from UP when I was only 4 y.o. Still have many more relatives in UP and Chicago that I want to meet! Bye the way, that was a great love story that was posted...thanks. Jean Kangas-lovett, Hermiston, OR

By Taka on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 08:18 pm:

Thank you Donn. But it wasn't that dangerous so that people call it venture. About the camera stuff, I will talk to you in private.
And Congratulation Marvin!
Taka

Loved Marvin's story. Looks like you two won't be cold this winter up there!

I've been thru Hubbell many times but don't know where Hungarian Falls is. They look beautiful, especially in winter. Help?

By Ken from da UP on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 11:00 pm:

Hei, Taka, kiitos for the winter pic of the Hungarian Falls. I love that spot. And congrats to Marvin and his bride-to-be! The view from UP there on the Bumbletown Hill really is nice! Enjoy!

By Mary Lou on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 11:01 pm:

Sherry...I think the Hungarian Falls are outside Lake Linden off the Calumet hill highway. I believe there is parking but you must walk in to see the falls....but, where is Bumbletown Hill?

By Bonnie, Florida on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 11:37 am:

By Nancy Wi. on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 12:39 am:

hello Mary Lou from Nancy in Marinette. I am so happy you told me about this web site. My mom is Bev Holman from Calumet. One of our favorite places to visit is Bumbultown Hill. I am going to call her and tell her Marvins story. She will be delighted. Anyone know my brother Ken? Happy New Year!

By Mary Lou on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 10:55 am:

Hi Nancy.....I knew some Holmans from Jacobsville and Lake Linden.....Judy, is a wonderful teacher! Where is Bumbletown Hill?? Thanks for wrapping my gift!!

By bj-milford on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 01:22 pm:

Mary Lou....I think you're describing Douglas Houghton Falls, which is now on private property. There was some discussion on this awhile back, but I can't seem to locate it now.
Hungarian Falls are just north of Tamarack-Hubbell. There is a sign that marks the road. Maybe some other pasty cammers can be more helpful. I was surprised you didn't get more comments. Everyone must be relaxing after the holidays. :-)

By Lisa, WI on Thursday, January 2, 2003 - 08:46 am:

The falls on the Calumet hill north of Lake
Linden are the Douglass-Houghton falls. They
used to be open to the public, but are now
posted private property. The Hungarian falls
can be accessed from the Hubbell-Tamarack
area. There is a sign on M-26 pointing the
way, although getting there this time of year
might be a little trickier than getting there in the
summer. You can drive up to a parking area,
then a bit of hiking is in order. Good luck!

Congrads Marvin: Florida loss is Michigan gain. My grandparents lived in the Copper Range area in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. Joe
