Some roads are snow covered and slippery in the northern U.P. today. Jonathan and I were up at Horace Greely last night when the snow started, and it really came down at that altitude. Meanwhile, back in Calumet Dan Wenberg captures the scene up at the football field, and out back of Still Waters in the garden.

Speaking of the garden, we want to send a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped in the garden this year, and in years past. There was a volunteer appreciation dinner on Tuesday this week, honoring the gardeners along with all those who give of their time and effort to help make the quality of life at Still Waters what it is today. Sorry I was not able to be at the dinner, with a previous committment at the Little Gem in Lake Linden. By the way, our conversation about de-regulation of pasties earlier the week has continued to attract comment.

If the State thinks so highly of your business and what you are doing why haven't they stepped up and helped you get that mess straightened out. I have to agree with others that regulation is needed but also have to be on Charlies side. It is a fact that anytime you deal with the federal government in any way it is always a pain right where you sit down. As for them doing what you ask they'll tell most times that they don't have the manpower to police everyone therfore they want you to do their job. Stick to your guns and maybe with luck and a lot of support from your patrons you will get what you seek.

Wow!

Real honest to goodnes, "pick-it-up-and-make-a-snowball" snow! Is it going to stick or will it melt soon? I'm looking forward to making it home to Elo for Christmas, just in time for that really cold snap around New Years when the snow is so cold, it "creaks and squeaks" when you walk on it.

So far the only real snow I have seen has been on the top of Mt Fuji, way off in the distance.

Beautiful Shots! I can't wait to get back home and play in the SNOW. It's still disgustingly warm and sunny down here in the Gulf.

Next Wednesday can't come too soon, Honey:)

I agree with Lowell, the gov't isn't going to do more than say they can't police everyone. You just have to follow the rules, take your chances if you don't, or get the rules changed. Good luck with the de-regulation!

What a memerable site. Walking to High School during the first days of the snow. Or having Band Practice at the Field in the middle of a snow fall!!!!

Hey there. Who is coming to the Calumet football game in Benzie that I know?? I live in Kaleva. Just wondering. Thanks

By Trish, Junee, Australia on Monday, November 18, 2002 - 05:11 pm:

Amazing shots of Calumet snow sent to me by my Yooper pal this morning. Wish you could send some of it down here to Australia, we could melt it and use it for the farms. Much of our state of New South Wales is in the grip of a devastating drought.

Love the photos, and this site which I visit regularly. You live in a beautiful part of the world.
