Perhaps the clicking of his camera made this young moose turn to Jon Hopper and check him out. He did look a little startled at first, then calmly turned and walked away.

Hello
The moment was part of a long hike around Isle Royale with his buddies, as Jonathan celebrates his final full week as a single man. It was also a nice vacation from his duties as Systems Administrator of our PastyNET online service, which connects hundreds of members throughout the Keweenaw. After the honeymoon, the newlyweds plan to settle down right here in Eagle River, and later move downstate for a while with Med School for Katriina. But both agree: the U.P. is where they want to be.

Sandy,

How are preparations coming along for the Minnesota State Fair? It will be here before too long!

By Yooper in Indiana on Thursday, August 8, 2002 - 10:33 am:

this truely reminds me of the 2 summers (1962 & 1963) that I spent on the Island. Guess that I will have to dig out my old photos to bring back more fond memories of those summers. Charlie,,,as far as your e-mail goes for the wireless connection from Bete Grise, I would be interested in it if I spent more time in the great Keweenaw,,,,,but I only get back for long weekends.

I have seen lots of moose, but there was one I'll always remember: One day in the mid 1970's I was hiking/camping in the northwest section of the Island. While walking through a gorgeous growth of young birch trees I heard and then saw a yearling moose running through the trees. He came within 10 feet of me and continued on his way. I am convinced he was running for the pure pleasure of it. A young guy having fun. Beautiful.

What a shot!!! Almost like taking pictures of the family dog. I`ve never actually been to the island, but all the beautiful pictures i`ve seen here are making me want to go.

Are those thimbleberry bushes to the right and left front of the moose?

Beautiful!

By walt, ohio on Friday, August 9, 2002 - 08:03 am:

Thimbleberries, without a doubt!!

Charlie,
It's a last minute rush in preparations. With having Steele County Fair in Owatonna the week before the state fair, there is plenty to do. Steele County runs 8/12 to 8/18 and state from 8/22 to 9/2. Doesn't leave many days, does it? We look forward to another successful fair for us and you. Best wishes to Jon on his wedding. Have a great weekend. After Monday, it will be hard to reach me, but Chuck will be around. ***Sandy***

Any photograph close to a moose is a WOW to me. This is one of the photographs I wish to personally take someday. You did a good job and you are alive to show it to use.

Sandy/Charlie- Do your earlier messages mean there will be UP Pasties @ the MN State Fair? I've got a date/day there mit mein hubby, would LOVE to add pasties to the list of "must find" fair food. Gets a little longer each year, I'm afraid....

The moose is cute! :} But it must have been scared by the camera or something. It looks scared!

Fantastic photo! To see a wild moose is a thrill I can't imagine. Cherish and protect the UP.
