As I mentioned yesterday, our son Jonathan has been on Isle Royale the past few days, his "bachelor party" before walking the aisle Saturday next week. He came back late last night, with a whole slew of fresh pictures from the Island, including the most incredible moose shot I've ever seen. (Can hardly wait till tomorrow :o)

The action shots above feature James Hackman (left) and Andy Ewert with some aerial antics, while Jon clicked his Fuji. We'll give Andy a 7.9, while baggy-pants James comes in with a 3.8. By the way, James will be Jonathan's best man on August 17. Don't know if Andy will make it, as he is working on the Island all summer.

WOW! FANTASTIC pictures. Cannot imagine starting the day without checking in on Pasty Cam. These shots are sent to friends all over the country and have inspired many to visit our area. Keep up the wonderful work.

I wonder what the water temperature is. Growing up in the UP I remember jumping in Lake Superior and running back out and turning blue. No wonder I didn't learn to swim.

This will date me a little more than I'd like, but I remember Andy when he was a little kid! He sure looks like his dad...and seems to have gotten some of that Ewert adventurous spirit as well! The water looks great from dry California, no matter how cold it likely is!

Hi EMH.
I also learned to swim in Lake Superior (Munising Bay). We learned to swim fast to keep warm while swimming but when we got out the teeth really chattered, the goose bumps, bumped and we wore a blue suit so our blue skin didn't seem so blue.
Today I wouldn't go in past the ankles! But Superior is still the greatest, cold water and all.

Looks like they are having a wonderful time. Nice shots. Congrats on the wedding.

I was at the Island the third week in July and the water was actually pretty warm....for Lake Superior that is, especially out there! The air temp was in the 90's and we spent over an hour wading up to our knees in the water and still knew we had feet!!!! :) Of course the deeper you go the colder it gets!

Just for the heck of it I checked the National Date Buoy Center to see what Lake Superior's water temp is, in middle Lake Superior-North, Northeast of Hancock.....it's been hovering right around 58.6 most of the day, almost identical to the air temp out there! Check it out.....

Oops! That's the National Data Buoy Center and I should have told you when you get to the sight, to just put your pointer over the different colored dots until you find the one you want to view.....then click it!

My first instance of swimming in Superior was off the beach at Muskellonge State Park north of Newberry and it was exhilarating, to say the least. I love to swim in Superior because we don't have really great swimming holes down here. Everyone I know thinks I'm crazy for going in and having fun, but hey, they're missing out! It reminds me, I had a friend tell me that she had a classmate from Rhode Island ask her if Superior was a "stagnant pool." I laughed so hard I cried! They must not get a lot of big water in Rhode Island, which is funny considering the location.

Stagnant pool? Heh, apperantly there's alot they don't get out on Rhode Island ;)

Lake Superior was always enticing, but dangerous. It's waters could be either a friendly blue; or an angry purple and copper-colored foam spitting at you. Snorkeling was a quick excursion in this ice water, but a gorgeous sight to behold. Shallow water banks lined with colorful rocks, sloping to deep pockets of clear bluish water. Sunrays glistening through the depths at an angle are a beautiful sight. Proud to be native of Michigan.
