Over 4 years ago we stood here with the Pasty Cam, along with my Mom and Aunt Bea (see below). Today JoAnne Stefanac provides a better look at this rustic sign, which certainly has some interesting hyphenation. We're just a couple of miles north (or east) of Copper Harbor.

All too soon another week of the Pasty Cam has come to an end. Time to pick the WOW (methinks it's Dan Urbanski's Kayak for sure). Thanks to everyone who has emailed U.P. pictures, we just don't have enough days to display them all. Guess you'll have to come back.

Lot's happening all across the U.P. this weekend. Have some strawberry shortcake if you're in Chassell for the annual festival... and then tonight you can catch some oldies from the legendary Jan and Dean in the Calumet Theatre, billed as their final tour.

Maybe this really is the end of the road :o)

Wow, what a coincidence. We just arrived yesterday and staying at the Eagle Lodge so, naturally, we headed up to the sign too. All's well up here and, guess what? The flies are gone. We haven't seen any so come on up.

Hello from Florida.
I'm at the other end of US 41.
It's pouring rain here today and very HOT.
I leave for Michigan on the 20th of this month.

I call it as far up north as you can go - in Michigan :)

On my last trip I had to stop at everyplace we passed that I've seen on the website....the Jampot is a MUST....you will be addicted to Thimbleberry jam!! And your friends and relatives will envy your FU wear, every visit you'll have a list of stuff to pick up :)

p.s. can you just drop in at Stillwaters to purchase pasties?

This is the START of US-41. No question. No quarter.

Had the pleasure of working on the last (or first) section of us41 when it was contructed by Hocking Construction, way back in 56 or so, seems like yesterday! Mack Frimodig was park manager at Fort Wilkins. Nice memories.

Yes, you can stop in Still Waters anytime for pasties. We keep them in a freezer in the lobby.

Also, if you're staying farther out on the Peninsula, Pasty Central pasties are available at the Jampot as well.

And past that sign its better, you get into the deep woods on the old logging roads, and some of the best keep secerts and sites are back there.

I remember being impressed when my dad casually mentioned that now I'd been to both ends of U.S. 41 when we visited this sign many years ago, having been to the Miami end several years earlier. I've alway thought it would be neat to travel the entire length, or perhaps U.S. 45, driving through all those small towns the interstate system now bypasses. Maybe someday.

A few years back a friend of mine & his son & daughter biked out to High Rock Bay. On their return, about a mile east from that sign, they met a rather fancy sedan slowly edging its way over the rocks,and driven by an elderly man with his wife in the passenger seat. They signaled my friends, rolled down the window and asked, "Where in h--- is Copper Harbor?" :)
Related--but not about the sign, the friend and I
were just setting out for Eagle Harbor from the
Fitzgerald restaurant in Eagle River. An RV drove up and the driver asked, "Where in h--- is downtown Eagle River?" :) :)

Over in Ontonagon is where US-45 begins, not quite as long as 41, ending at Mobile, Alabama.

Upon arriving in Copper Harbor, visitors often ask my mother, "Is this the end of the Earth?!!" to which she ever so sweetly replies, "Oh no, but you can see it from here."
