Shoebox Memory from Robert Halonen

By
Charlie at Pasty Central on Sunday, May 26, 2002 - 12:16 pm:

Back in 1988, Robert Halonen hopped out and took a snapshot of the old sign which you may remember somewhere around Munising. Doesn't look like there was any gas being pumped at that time.

Be careful on the highways this weekend. Triple-A estimates that some 30 million travelers will take to the road. What a beautiful time of year to tour the U.P. :o)

Looks like that station had been closed for a while, 'eh? I remember the sign, though. Not to change the subject but does anyone have any shoebox memories of the 'Clash and Clatter Band' from Calumet? Mimi's Mom played with them 'way back when. I remember them in parades, with their homemade hats, banging on pots and pans with spoons etc. Really cute. :o) Think the leader's name was Saima Secor from Centennial Hts. Any memories?

I also remember that sign. Thanks for the memories. Now as I head off to my hometown Memorial Day events here down state, please everyone take a moment or longer to remember what this day is all about. God Bless America & thank you all veterans who are both living & dead. To those who gave the ultimate sacrifice we ALL owe you....

My kids get tired of me saying as we are leaving Munising "I remember some where along here there used to be a sign - last gas before Christmas" I had the words messed up. Thanks for posting this - now I have the words right and proof of it being there...
