This month's memorial includes:

Mollie Mayhar
Linda Wagner
Connie Sopjes
Wallace Keskitalo

I must mention a few words about Mollie Mayhar. When I came to Still Waters in 1994, I believe Mollie was the first resident to whom I was introduced. At the time she was playing the role somewhat of a greeter, in the front lobby of the home, a little lady barely 5 feet tall. The staff told me, years ago she had operated "Mollie's", a popular night spot on 8th street in Calumet during the 40's and 50's. Failing memory and dementia had not erased her nature to make people feel welcome. I truly felt welcomed to this new world for me... a world of caring about the needs of the elderly.

One time a friend of mine, Alan Abel, came to visit Still Waters. When I went to meet him at the door, Mollie came along, almost appearing obligated to introduce us. Instead I introduced Alan to Mollie. She seemed a bit surprised or embarrased that we already new each other. Standing there with the two of us taller guys, being the perennial conversationalist, she reached up and patted me on the shoulder and said to Alan, "This is a good boy. I have never seen him... get drunk".

I'll never forget Mollie. She passed away on April 18 at the age of 92.

Wallace Keskitalo , my dad , who passed away April 19. From my sisters Peg, Pam, Pat and my brother John. We all agree that we led an idyllic childhood growing up in the Copper Country with great parents Wally and Lynn Keskitalo. We were blessed. Stewart Keskitalo.

I too am saddened to hear of the passing of Mollie. I recall fondly the numerous times I would accompany my Dad to her friendly bar, he for his one or two beers and I would be treated to chips and a 7-up or pepsi. And that was a treat, not something we had frequently at home. Whenever I'm in Calumet and pass the lot where her establishment used to be, I think of Mollie. God bless Mollie Mayhar.
