I love this time of year with that faint green haze across the tree tops... that wonderful time between snow and black flies.

Any ideas where we're standing?

By D.L.O. on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 12:58 pm:

It looks like Delaware mine shaft.

By John T./ Marquette on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 01:04 pm:

Is it looking at Mt. Bohemia and Houghton from Mt. Horace Greely?

By James H./Wheaton on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 01:46 pm:

You're at the old military base looking toward Mt. Bohemia!?

By Carol, IN, formerly MI on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 01:47 pm:

Wish I were there wherever it is.

By mobrien on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 02:03 pm:

By Yank, MI on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 04:38 pm:

I think it is also the fire tower you can see on the way to the Harbor.

By Liz Benson, Idaho on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 05:07 pm:

Gosh, I think either Porkies or Ironwood or even Marquette area looking toward one of the ski areas.

By Fred Casheby from Germany on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 05:29 pm:

Since I have discovered you website I enjoy it very much. Very much! I often think as I think today: Wherever it is I wish I were there!
Thanks for your beautiful and amazing pics.

By Carole on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 08:42 pm:

I agree with James H. The old military base.

By Mary, AK on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 09:14 pm:

You are on top of the old Air Force radome tower building looking towards Mt Bohemia.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 11:57 pm:

Wow, Mary, you really nailed it down! You're absolutely right. This week I went where very few people have ever gone (especially in recent years), to the top of the highest structure on Mt. Horace Greeley. The hill with the white streaks in the distance is Mt. Bohemia. That's Lac La Belle to the right, and the hump just to the left of center is Gratiot Mountain - which is actually higher than Bohemia.

John T. identified it correctly, but it sounds like Mary might have spent some time up on that roof.

today's location

Charlie,

Daily visitor and longtime fan of the Pasty cam.
Is there a particular site that you go to that provides maps of the Keweenaw with this much geographic detail? While I have purchased the county road map on our visits, it would be great to access some of this online. I'm still 2 months away from returning to the area and really starting to get U.P. fever.

By Nancy Nelson on Saturday, April 20, 2002 - 08:33 pm:

Have seen that dome many times, but didn't know you could go there. Is that site abandoned by the military now? I am learning so much from this site. Didn't know about Gratiot Mountain before. How did we grow up loving the area and still miss so much? Thanks again for the site, Chopper.

By former yooper on Monday, April 22, 2002 - 12:43 pm:

I'd say James was in the ball park with his guess also, but I believe the bump to the imediate left of Bohemia is Mt Houghton and Gratiot Mountain is the hill furthest to the left.

By Steve, PA on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 - 12:34 pm:

Hey,

Can't you see this from the Delaware Mine?

I remember seeing something from there, and asking a local, he said it was an old military base.

My father was born in Copper Falls. His cousin
was Louise Patberg. I love the Copper Country and can't wait till I can return. What solitude!
