I awoke this morning to the roar of rushing water over at "Canyon" here in Eagle River. Yesterday's record heat lingered overnight to accelerate the melting.

Kelly Wenberg took a drive out by Askel-Arnheim Road and found some of that runoff slowing down local traffic. Bring along your water skis :o)

Rain in the forecast today.

Where is Arnheim?

By Toivo from Toivola on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 - 10:10 am:

Arnheim is off of US-41 on the way from Baraga to Chassell. Arnheim Road turns into Askel Road on the way to Otter Lake.

is that a log in the middle of the road or maybe a sturgeon (sp?).

YEAH! A picture of home! I grew up only around 3 miles away from there down on the South end of Otter Lake. This is a common spot for flooding. The other spot is down by the bridge over Otter River at the South end of the Lake. When I was growing up, there was a Spring where for one day all the kids caught between the two floods didn't have to go to school(Baraga). Somewhere I have a picture of a Ford Pinto that died in the middle of crossing and got washed out into the trees by the Lake. It was always fun to row a boat out in your fields.

That water just might help the coming strawberry crop.

Good Lord I hope my place is still there when I come up next month. Only about 1500 ft from the Otter but on high ground, thank goodness. This is a first posting here for me and hope to make more. Thanks for making my winter a little shorter and less boring.

Hey Naomi, it hit 94 degrees here yesterday, some say 96. Too hot!!!!! That snow is becoming instant water.

By Alice, Ventura on Friday, April 19, 2002 - 12:12 am:

Ironwood flooding was a moving banner on CNN tonight! I had to come over to Pasty.com to see and read all about it!

94 degrees in Houghton? Wow! Not so here in Ventura county. My daughter had the heat on in the house out in Fillmore, and that is a bit inland and usually 10-20 degrees warmer (at least) than Ventura. No wonder there is flooding...snow becoming water much too fast. Good luck and stay dry all of you Yoopers!
