The Houghton Husky women from Michigan Tech have had a grueling schedule this week, facing two of the toughest hockey teams in the nation, early in the competition. Today at the Tesoro arena complex (above) our fighting Huskies fell to the Minnesota Flyers in one of the most physical duels of these games.

Our Copper Country entourage has enjoyed the Alaskan hospitality and rugged beauty of this region. Did you know Alaska's shoreline is only 50 miles from Russia? No wonder it feels like we've traveled half way around the world!

On Friday the Huskies face the Buffalo Saints in their first evening game of the week. It won't be until early morning Saturday (U.P. time) when we'll have more playoff results to report.

Visited Alaska 31 years ago in the summertime. What a glorious day, weather-wise. Mountains and sky are awesome. Good luck to the Husky Women in the rest of the tournament.

Lived 16 miles north of Anchorage from 1988-1992...if it weren't for the draw of the UP, I would have never left....Alaska and the UP are the two most favourite areas of my life.....

Congratulations Charlie, you've gone from Eagle River, Michigan (which is 50 miles from Canada)all the way to Eagle River, Alaska (which is 50 miles from Russia). It sure seems like a small world and with pasty.com it seems even smaller as we can enjoy the journey with you. Keep up the great job.

Alaska is a beautifull state. About 10 years ago a friend of mine and me took his 4 seat piper airplane and flew the Alaska highway for the most part and visited Fairbanks and Wasila areas like in the end of May and 1st week of June. Our altitude was from about 5,000 to 9,000 feet. Flying around Mt. McKinley and other mountians in southern and eastern Alaska was just breath taking. Wales Alaska is about 50 miles from Russia Eagle River Alaska is near Anchorage.
