On the way in to Mohawk this afternoon, Jonathan and I stopped by the Snow Thermometer and snapped a few shots. We didn't stay long, because visibility was bad, and we didn't want any entanglements, such as the logging truck coming up the hill on US-41.

Did you know that Pasty Central actually started with pictures of the Snow Thermometer? Back in '95, almost a year before we registered the domain name "pasty.com", we kept a page showing the snow depth. Later the pasties came along. If your computer has Real Audio, you can hear the story of how this project had its beginnings, on a previous "Eye of the Pasty Cam"

Daily snow depth reports have resumed over on the Snow Thermometer page, along with a convenient display of temps around the U.P.

Hi,

We enjoy seeing all your pictures on the pasty

cam, I lived in Calumet-Laurium in 1978-79 and I

will never forget that winter! Sometimes we miss

the U.P. but like my husband always says, you don't

have to shovel the rain!! Take care from the

Evergreen State.

At times I truly miss the fun we had in all that snow--it is glorious when you are young. Then something happens that reminds me that I am no longer that young, and the only way I could survive the winters there would be to be wealthy enough to have someone else remove the snow. I think from now on I will stick to a summer visit every year!

I remember the record snowfall of 78-79 very well. I was home on vacation from the navy and just could not wait to see the snow once again. Needless to say it snowed the day I got there and didn't stop for weeks after I left. I honestly think the U.P. is gods' country but for me I will limit my visits to the summer.
