A week ago last Friday, the Pasty Cam featured a super two-way view of an excursion to Manitou Island, past the Gull Rock light. That was an evening shot, today we see the sun's magnificent return to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula in a guest photo by Alex Protzel of Copper Harbor.

In case anyone was curious about the picture details. It was about 7:15 a.m. The sun was low on the horizon for only about 5 minutes. I used a sony megapixel (1152x 864) digicam. I was on a quick site seeing trip to both lighthouses out here by Keweenaw point.

I've told people that living up here is the "top of the world". That morning it certainly felt true.

I hope everyone enjoys the photo and thank you to pasty.com for doing what they do.

Hey Alex,
This is your brother. Good to see that you are soaking up the UP magnificence and sharing this with other people (mom taught you well). Yes, Lake Superior and the UP skyline are always a treat. Every year I take more pictures of the same, but it only seems to be getting better. I am stuck downstate fully involved in rat race duties. I plan a break in mid September and I will join you to venture out on the water and through the woods. A trip to Porters island is mandatory. Prime the air raid siren and rally the troops. Post some Porters island sunset pix, Alex.

Cya,
Bebo

Hi Alex,
It's indeed a great picture, and I just hope I'll have the occasion of appreciating the many other photos you will take. Your cousins Mónica and Silvia are also interested in photography. Congratulations,
Uncle Javier.
