Local hockey sensation and Harley enthusiast Andy Ewert is at the helm, shuttling Pasty Camiester Jon Hopper out-and-back to the Gull Rock Light. Hopefully the boys will add some of their own thoughts to this page... but, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. In the upper scene, that steep bump on the horizon is Brockway Mountain, which Andy is probably also looking at in the lower frame. Above his head in the second shot is Manitou Island, and to the right Gull Rock.

An awesome way to spend an August evening.

How exciting. I've never seen pictures or heard anything about the Keweenaw Peninsula past Copper Harbor. The road used to end at the Fort but I understand it goes farther now. If they have a closer picture of the lighthouse I'd love to see it.

Beautiful pictures. We just returned last week from a 6 week stay at our cottage at Gratiot Lake. Already I wish we would have stayed longer but will return this fall. Love this web site and pictures.
Thanks to all who make it possible.

Great shots!! In the upper picture wouldn't the right bump with the steeper bluff be Brockway. That would make the larger one to the left East Bluff.

By Charlie at P.C. on Friday, August 25, 2000 - 10:57 pm:

Bob,

The steeper bluff on the right is indeed Brockway Mountain as you point out, almost againt the East Bluff from this angle. But we have identified the highest bump on the left as Mount Houghton. In that first shot they're farther out than you might think. By the way, under the water back toward the peninsula to their left lies the wreck of the Mesquite.

Thank you so much for sharing your photographs. As
a Michigan native I really miss the beautiful
scenery and the Pasty cam is a welcome reminder of
how lovely and unique the Upper Peninsula is. I
enjoy seeing the perspectives of all the cam
photographers, and Dan Urbanski is a favorite.

Looks like those guys had some nice calm water. My wife Patty and I have tried numerous times to kayak from High Rock Bay to Manitou Island, but we always have found ourselves in rougher water than we felt comfortable with.

Can I get a ride next time?

I'd like to know if those guys trucked their skiff over the backroads and launched at the point, or did they boat over from Copper Harbor?

Those backroads to the point from Copper Harbor are a really fun 4x4 trip. Not too difficult in dry conditions.

That's the end of the world in my book, what a place!
