The Dollar Bay Tamarack City area schools foundation is getting ready to send out an appeal letter, we'd like to build an endowment fund for scholarships, but will take money for anything and everything! If you have moved since the 2002 reunion (and it looks like half of us have done so) please drop a line (and a check would be nice) to the foundation, % the school, PO box 371 Dollar Bay, Mi 49922. We are looking at 2006 or 2007 for the next reunion. If you are coming home this summer, email me, we are looking for people to ride on a great float for the parade!

By ruth on Thursday, June 19, 2003 - 10:28 pm:

anyone who wants to work on the 2003 DBTC Foundation float, show up at the bus garage on the evenings of the 2nd and 3rd of July--say around 6.

Just found this great website. Being a former Yooper, I'm getting home sick looking at everything from my favorite place in the world.
Hope to be back to visit soon.

Don't forget, we still have the annual Dollar Bay/Tamarack school reunion picnic EVERY July 4th after the Dollar bay parade at Sandy Bottom. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.

As we go into the final days of 2002, we all look back at the major "wonder-filled" events of the past year. Certainly the All School Reunion is at the top of the list for many of us. It wouldn't have been possible without the generous contributions of all those involved with organizing the event.

Our heart felt thanks to all of you........!

It was truly a pleasure to see so many schoolmates again and share "just a bit" in their lives again.......

Till the next one.......!

Peter Kettenbeil

By Chris Farmer Bryan, DesRochers Rd.,Pelkie on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 - 05:11 pm:

To all DB-TC alumni,
I am putting this on the Reunion site, hoping that some of you will see this and/or pass this on to old friends.
Many of us from the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City area are planning to move back to the Copper Country after our retirements. Many of us have elderly family members who are still living in this area. If you are on this site, please check out Omega House Hospice.org. It is a non-profit ( and I do mean no profit) organization for the Copper Country, to provide a " final gift of home," to local residents with ANY terminal illness. To get to the site from PastyCentral, click on "Charitable and Non-profit organizations". There are only two paid employees, the full-time campaign manager and one part-time secretary. The rest is all done by volunteers. If you can give a donation to Omega House Hospice of the Copper Country,it would be most appreciated. We want to be up and running ASAP, so the house will be there if one of our family or ourselves needs it.
Let's all pull together and do something great for the people that helped raise and nourish us, heart and soul!

By ruth neher on Monday, August 5, 2002 - 09:03 pm:

For those of you who missed the reunion, or simply want to see a "recap" of the event, I understand Johnny Buck made a video for Pearl Stoor, out outstanding committee bird dog! She worked so hard in the tracking process, and then wound up hospitalized with pnuemonia and missed the event.
I think you can reach John and make arrangements for copies of said video if you email rbackman@mtu.edu. If that email doesn't work, write me at rneher@up.net, and I will try to get you a better one.

And Toivo, sorry, my goal in this reunion was to raise money for the school foundation, there is no way any money is refunded to anybody! We do not have a final tally yet, but it looks like we raised about 5 grand for the foundation, not counting another $1500 in individual donations to the foundation that would probably not otherwise have happened, and I understand we may be getting a "huge" donation from a family to endow a scholarship! That is wonderful, and why so many of us worked so hard to bring this event off!

What is really amazing to me is hearing so many committee members saying things that start with "The next time we need to do thus and so...." I am not personally ready to say that!

My proudest moment came from an email that gave me all the credit for the "stroke of genius" in having Lt. Colonel Chuck Cavis deliver the memorial address...in truth, it wasn't just "my" idea, but I do take satisfaction in having badgered him "just a little"! It was a wonderful tribute, and Ted Strieter deserves all the credit for setting up such a moving kick off to our events!

Those of you interested in working on the next one, you contact Bob Banfield at Bay Tile, 906-482-5700....didn't he do a wonderful job? Ruth

By Chris Farmer Bryan,DesRocher's Rd., Pelkie,MI on Saturday, July 20, 2002 - 12:00 am:

Having recieved some e-mails asking for photos taken at the reunion, I apologize if I have mislead some into thinking that I have a broad assortment of photos. The photos are primarily of people from the classes of '68 and '69 plus one of Lorraine Richards, a few of Harvey Fillpula and some of Marcia Neher and Anne, Bill and Peter Kettenbiel. I am, however, willing to share those if requested.

By Chris Farmer Bryan on Thursday, July 18, 2002 - 07:41 pm:

P.S. If any of you want a copy of some of the photos I took, drop me a message with your addresses and I'll get you a copy or 2.

By Chris Farmer Bryan,DesRochers Rd, Pelkie, MI on Thursday, July 18, 2002 - 07:38 pm:

Ruth and all the others who organized the DB-TC reunion.....you did a wonderful job and I had a great time! So many people to see and talk to....it was GREAT! The four+ years I lived in $Bay were probably the most important ones of my life.....I can't think of a better place to have grown-up!
Thanks to Ray Carlson for making me an honorary Class of '69 GRADUATE...at last!!!!!!!!! I wish there were even more people I saw and recognized but it was many moons ago...like around 432 of them....
Ruth, Marcia, Mary, Bonnie, Annie, Pete,Harvey,Ray, Mike, Duane, Louie, Tom and Rick,Marie,BobbyDon, Marlin,Brian and others I sure I've missed....it was so good to see all of you again and I sincerely hope it won't take so long before I see all of you, my friends, again!
Thanks again, to all the Committee members for their hours and hours of hard work and dedication!

By Dan Farmer, Minnesota on Friday, July 12, 2002 - 08:35 pm:

Thanks to all that helped to set this reunion up. You did an awesome job! It was great seeing all of you. Sorry I didn't remember a few of you that did remember me, but it's been 36 years and a LOT of water under that bridge.

Has anybody posted the Class of 68 photos yet? I keep checking, but to no avail.

To Marlin Wenberg: Glad you're not "Boo" anymore. You seem like a much better human being now.

So good to run into Pete K, Brian M, Bruce D, Rick P, Karen Z, Annie K, Ron K, "Johnnie Buck", and so many others.

If anyone has any old memorabilia they are willing to donate or loan for a display, please contact Pearl Stoor at 482-3649. We'd love to get some stuff from the old Tamarack and Point Mills schools, if it is out there! Meetings are on Monday nights in the school library at 6:30! Ruth

By ruth neher on Thursday, June 6, 2002 - 07:27 am:

A plea to all you out there who are saying you will just show up at the mixers one night or the other! We are paying $2.25 of that admission ticket for food, we are paying for "Avarice" to play late both nights, and Ramrod (formerly known to us more mature reunioners as Jimmy B and the Rocketones) early on Friday. We have a dj coming in early on Saturday with 40's and 50's swing. The liability insurace comes out to about 50 cents of the ticket--this enterprise is on the verge of bankruptcy as we wait to see who is coming! If you want a name tag, that's gotta go to the printers, and if you haven't sent in your long sheet we don't know how you want your name printed! Please take them off the fridge and get them in! Thanks! Ruth

We have just gone over 600 in the number of people registered (with spouses and kids this is more like 1200 people) and many of the "locals" are not in yet! Early registration will be at the school on Wednesday afternoon, and later registration will be on Friday morning. Hope to see you in Dollar Bay over the 4th weekend! Ruth

By Donna Bell Burket on Thursday, May 9, 2002 - 03:28 pm:

Hey Joyce, its Donna, I don't think I can make it to the reunion, but would love to correspond. I tried to reply to your e-mail address but AOL rejected it and said you were not a member. My address is "carmel43@aol.com" Would love to hear from you!!

Class of 1966. Sure hope we have a good turn out. I'm looking forward to seeing classmates. I left the UP in 1971. Lots of catch-up to do.

By Susan Anderson Hinz on Friday, January 25, 2002 - 12:09 am:

Joyce,
Your name rings a bell with me. Although I didn't graduate from Dollar Bay I spent most of my grade school years there. I used to hang around with Gail Matson from Tamarack Mills. I seem to remember (if I have the right Joyce) that your were related to her. I was thinking of coming up but wasn't sure if I would really know anyone. I'm currently in Sheboygan WI.

By JOYCE EDWARDS WOOD on Thursday, January 17, 2002 - 07:17 pm:

Do any class of 72 grads plan on attending the dbh reunion?

By MAR on Saturday, December 8, 2001 - 07:28 am:

my email address is rneher@up.net, if you didn't get a registration form, but want to be included, just email me and I will send you one. This is going to be a wonderful party, and everyone with even the most tenuous connection to the Dollar Bay Tamarack City Area schools is welcome to attend. If you know someone who wants to be included, but does not have email, they can phone me at 482-0886 and leave a message. Thanks!

By msk, MI on Monday, July 9, 2001 - 04:30 pm:

I paid Dollar Bay school taxes, but never was invited to your reunion. Why not?

Anon

By r neher dollar bay on Thursday, May 31, 2001 - 08:04 pm:

A small committee of people recently sent out close to 1200 letters to all former students we could find addresses for, to announce an all school reunion for July 5th and 6th in 2002. We need more committee members and more addresses! Next meeting is 6/25. Chances are, if you didn't get a letter by Saturday, June 2nd, we don't know where you are! We are not just looking for graduates! If you ever attended the schools, worked at the schools, taught, drove a bus, had any connection at all, you are welcome! There's a nonrefundable $10 registration fee that covers 2 adults and all children under 18. If you need a registration form, that shows the planned activities to date, email me, and I will email you one, plus a copy of our letter!
