This was taken by the Swedetown ponds last evening by my husband Stephen Marshall. We missed the sunset by a minute but he still captured a beautiful sky picture.

When we were in grade school at Copper Harbor one-room School my sister and I won our first cross-country ski races at Swede Town! Great sledding there at the bowl, too! Brings back great memories. The sky last night was beautiful, even in northern Indiana were I live now!

Beautiful picture!! Tell me about Swedetown, my husband is of Swedish ancestry and am curious. Sounds like it would be worth a trip to the area. I just recently found this web site and have really enjoyed the pictures. Thanks:)

Kathy MI, If you've never been to the Keweenaw Peninsula, you really are missing something!! I lived 16 years in Houghton; been gone two. If you head UP be certain not to miss Swede's in Copper Harbor--a great gift shop. It may not be open in winter, though. My daughter-in law is of Swedish ancestry, and I buy her something there every year. Another great place not to miss is Framed by Kathy in downtown Houghton. She may not be Swedish, but since you obviously enjoy this web site for the pictures, you won't believe the variety and quality of photographs available from Kathy. She is also the best custom framer in the area. I still save all my frame work and take it up to her each summer rather than have anyone else do it here in Wisconsin's Fox Valley. Enjoy your visit to the UP. I won't get back up there until at least May.

Karen in Oshkosh, Thank you for the information. I look forward to exploring the area. I have a file that I keep with "things to do". We will be moving to the U.P. within the next two years (closer to Munising). Then we will have more time to spend in the Western U.P. It's been a long time since I visited Copper Harbor. My husband and son have been snowmobiling in the Keweenaw Peninusula for the last few years and always enjoy their time there. Until we can be there we can enjoy this web site. Thanks again for the information. I will take the time to visit Swede's and Framed by Kathy. Happy Holiday!!
