It has been our priviledge to meet thousands of new friends through Pasty Central over the years. And even though we originally called it the "Keweenaw Pasty Cam", hundreds of regular visitors have identified themselves as being from Marquette and the surrounding area. I wish we could devote daily features to the "Marquette Pasty Cam" or "Escanaba Pasty Cam" or Iron Mountain, St. Ignace, Munising, Ironwood, or the Soo, etc., etc. The U.P. is simply too beautiful to ever exhaust the possibilities.

On a sunny day in Marquette recently, Joan Velde took this shot from the bluff overlooking the Harbor, and then drove down to the docks (just beyond the smokestacks in the view above) to get a closer look.

By the way, the original Pasty Cam guy, Jonathan Hopper, spent the first year of his life in Marquette (back when Gerald Ford was President). My wife and I and our newborn boy moved there to help start a radio station. Our original office was down there by the marina. Thanks, Joan, for bringing back fond memories.

Inbound. . . .
. . . .Approaching the docks
P.S. Several of Jonathan's shots in the past year are among your top choices in the voting for the 2002 Pasty Cam calendar. While the majority of folks have been voting by email, quite a few have used the discussion pages to cast their votes. Find out more.

This photo of "the bluff" looks like it could have
been taken atop Mt. Marquette. Now you're really
making me homesick showing photos of Presque Isle
and the docks. Thanks for the glimpse of my former
stompin' grounds! The U.P. is such a special
place, seems it always draws those who know it's
splendor home again.

Kate,
Yes, it was taken from atop Mt. Marquette. We saw the ore freighter in the distance, and wanted to see it closeup. It turned around and backed into the dock, so what looks like a freighter leaving the docks, is actually an inbound boat. Thanks for your comments.

Once again Charlie...Thanks for the Wonderful website that allows myself and others who are unfortunatly away from the U.P. right now..You give us all the chance to get a daily dose of our hometown through the beauty of the pictures you post! Thanks~ :)

Was up on Marquette Mt. myself earlier this summer. Sailed the lakes in '59 and '60 and was at that ore dock several times. Again in '63 also. Sure does bring back memories. :o) Thanks
again, Charlie and Joan.
Guess what? Ken from da UP turned 62 today!

Love all the pictures. Keep them coming. This is from a former Ishpeming resident with grandparents from Mohawk and Eagle Harbor, so I love the pictures.

What a view ! Makes me home sick too. Fall is my favorite time...all the colors and the smell of leaves and pines being swirled together with the cooling breeze.

Happy Birthday Ken! I was 62 in March. Ain't bad. I wish I could write greetings in Finn like Candy! Also from a Soumalainen living in CA.
