Hope all is well

What a beautiful picture.... I was there 3 years ago...but it was in the middle of summer. It was a great trip by sailboat. It has to be the nations most prestine and gorgeous island and national park!

With as much time as I've spent in the UP, I've never been to Isle Royale. Wow!! Look what I've been missing!

Speaking of WOW....

How 'bout 9/12, 9/19, 9/29, and this spectacular shot?!

What a wonderful shot. Our leaves are just starting to turn but won't look anything like these. Nice work.

Does anyone know the status of the color in the Ontonagon/Silver City area? We will be there Oct. 11. . .wondering if that'll be too late or just about right.

Thank you so much for the photo of the island that I love. I've hiked it, boated it, canoed it. A wonderful place that will always be close to my heart.

What a gorgeous photo. I've heard the colors are very late this year; we postponed a Sept. 22 trip to the Keweenaw until Oct. 12 (the next time we could go). Any input as to whether this was a good idea? How's the color now?

And I heard the white stuff is making brief appearances this and next weekend! Have to make it up there quickly!

Gorgeous picture, Steve. Never thought of going out there in the fall. What were the temperatures like? It looks as though the mossy stuff that is killing so many of the trees around the shorelines isn't quite as prevalent up there. Is this so? We were out there two months ago, now--not up to the arduous hikes up to the ridge any more.

Did the island get the worms?

You mean like these?

C&C from Hartland, MI- My cousin Joanne Buehler lives in Hartland. Do you know her? If so, and if she has email, tell her to email me at: neilson787@aol.com. Thanks!

Oh, also C&C from Hartland. Joanne is from the Greenland area, was Joanne Erickson. Her brother Ken used to live in the Silver City/White Pine area.

Great shot!

I spent a week solo hiking Isle Royal back when I was going to Tech.

A close encounter with a moose, a night hiking excursion, field mice robing me of my chocolate....all great memories. It is a week I will remember forever. Thanks for reminding me just how special that place is!

Nancy, thanks! the temps were great, sunny and 60's during the day high 30's to mid 40's at night. The trees seem to be fine on the island. I slept on the beach and was treated to some nice solar displays. We were canceled on the monday that we were supposed to go because of gale force winds and rough seas - it was still really rough on tuesday. The trip back was almost glass. I always go in late Sept. and out of twelve trips to the Island (24 crossings) I have only seen about 4 rough trips. Photographed seven Moose this time.

Undeniably beautiful, Steve.
Now...just to show you're human...hows' about the rest of the pics on that roll!

Ya Toivo..that's what I mean! Did them worms make it out to da island? Are they the reason that the fall colors are later this year?

By Nancy Nelson, WI on Saturday, October 6, 2001 - 09:45 pm:

Please sent some moose pictures, Steve. Haven't seen one out there since I went in the 50's. At that time there was a "pet" one around the lodge in Rock Harbor that the rangers would chase through for the entertainment of visitors, and I also encountered some on Mott Island where we stayed with friends.
