It still requires a bill to be passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor, but today the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board formally approved its recommendation concerning purchase of 6,000 acres at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. One of the most remarkable and beautiful places on the face of this planet, the land includes five miles up the Montreal River, several inland lakes and about four miles of Lake Superior shoreline. What a wonderful legacy to preserve for future generations!

You will find a complete report by Michele Anderson at the Keweenaw Land Use Forum, one of the many discussion areas here at Pasty Central.

With the tragedy out east continuing to unfold, today's action is a bright spot among some dark hours in our nation.

Mourning the loss

By

That is an awsome picture. I would really like to know where you got that picture and if I could get one, Donna.

Ben: Put your mouse over the picture, do a right click, choose the selection to "Save Image as"... or "Save Picture as"... and put it in a folder on your disk. Then you can drag and drop it into your browser, or other image viewer, when you are off line.

When you do the right click, in both major browsers there is also a selction to "Set as Wallpaper".

By Matt, Metro Detroit on Thursday, September 13, 2001 - 06:20 am:

Gorgeous! What a relief to know it will be preserved. And how sad to know that after something so sickeningly senseless that there are perhaps thousnads who will never again in this lifetime get a chance to see something this beautiful.

Charlie: If this doesn't become a WOW, I'd still like to get a copy, if that is possible.

THANKS!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but not only do I see a tear, but also a look of strength and determination in that eagle.

The eagle will have a place to rest in this beautiful part of the USA. May it always be safe.
Many thanks to the people who have made this possible. May the people of Michigan tell their legislators that they support this action with letters, calls, and e-mails.

very happy to see land set aside for the public--it was getting disturbing to think the only way I may get to see it was to buy it.

By YWB/ Richmond. on Thursday, September 13, 2001 - 07:13 pm:

We, as Americans are all the Eagle. We shall rise and soar above all. We have strength, and pride. We shall work as one nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The eagle's head is still up, he is strong and will survive. Thanks, Charlie! God bless America.

I also read this editorial and even though I am already proud to be an American, I swelled with more pride at the reading of it!
Read the following paragraph, then check out the web site below, for the complete story of Mr. Sinclair's editorial.

a pro-American commentary by Gordon Sinclair, has also
been making the rounds over the past couple of days. This one's
actually true. Sinclair did indeed make these comments, albeit during
the Nixon administration ... 28 years ago.

You can find the complete text of Gordon Sinclair's stirring, pro-
American editorial at

What a refreshing sight, the Montreal Falls, after all we've been watching on TV for the past few days. What a beautiful picture!!

By DMac/Lake Linden MI on Friday, September 14, 2001 - 09:00 pm:

Now, to add to the Eagle above:

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is
approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to
come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it.

The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them - we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward God. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them.

God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that
bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm. Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.

The Bible says, "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles." Isaiah 40:31

(Isn't this just gorgeous!)

My wish is to see positive come from an event as sad as this. If everyone would realize how precious life really is and treat each other as brother and sister, our world would heal!. Joy would return. Luv you much! Jer~

How true Whitespirit. We all seem to come together in our hours of need. If only it could be that way each and every day.....

I am proud to be called an american. I havea flag flying from my car antenna. Both my husbands served their country proudly. One went in on Omaha Beach in Normandy June 6, 1944. Was later captured by the Germans and was a prisoner for about a year. He died July 1977. I remarried another veteran who served in the China,India,Burma theatre. He died of cancer January 2000. My son served 6 years honorably in the Navy. I had one son-in-law serve in Vietnam 3 hitches. One son-in-law served the Navy in Korea. The other son-in-law is still in the Navy reserve.
Two of my grandsons served their country honorably.
