When I started preparing this morning's shot, it looked a lot like this. But by the time it was uploaded, a powerful lightning storm moved through the peninsula.

One of the Ameritech technicians mentioned to me that they could track the storm through the region, as alarms started going off in a path across the Keweenaw. Even our PastyNET dial-in service was knocked off for a while, a very rare occurance.

Things have calmed down now, with a quiet rain falling through through the woods. Thankfully, it is a bit cooler.

Our thanks to Barb Bremigan for a nice glimpse of the U.P.

Does anyone have pictures of the old Bosch brewery that they'd like to share? It was gone before my time and I'd like to see where my Dad and all of my aunts and uncles grew up. My Grandfather, Charlie Finger was the head brewmaster there for a time, so the Finger clan spent a lot of time there. Thank you

By Barb, IN on Wednesday, August 8, 2001 - 07:42 pm:

The picture was taken at the Copper Harbor
overlook on the Brockway Mountain Drive.

Hello Folks,

Wouldn't it be a great idea to be able to order T-shirts with our favorite WOW's printed on them? Complete with the little pasty.com logo, too:)

Just an idea-what does everybody think?

Love the photo....You definetly don't see anything near as beautiful here in Mid Michigan Lansing area!
I miss the U.P. alot..Funny they have a little tiny "so called lake here " Lake Lansing~Its more like a little pond~ha ha ha!
nothing beats Lake Superior and the beauty of the Upper Penisula!

By Ken from da UP on Wednesday, August 8, 2001 - 11:14 pm:

I have a photo somewhere taken from this same spot. Only it's of Lake Fannie Hooe and Copper
Harbor. Was taken in '57 I think. It's still a
very beautiful place.

On what has been the hottest day so far here in the Sacramento area (108), looking out over the wonderful waters of the Big Lake is better for this soul than full-house air conditioning! Thank you, Barb!

To Marc -

Your T-shirt idea with favorite WOW's sounds interesting. If someone had a cost effective way to do small quantities, maybe we could do it. If anyone has any ideas along these lines, please email us.

Currently there are a couple of pasty T-shirts available with pictures which have appeared here on the Pasty Cam. You'll find them over in the Pasty Softwear department.

A little trivia for all of you cammists.
What is the name of the island shown in this picture? I'll reply later with an answer.

By M. Slis, offshore Norway on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 03:25 am:

SILVER ISLAND??

By Florida on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 07:20 am:

I don't remember the name of the island but when I worked at the Isle Royal Dining Room in 1953 and 1954 I remember a few of us taking Mo's boat over there and wandering around.

By Abagail, N.D. on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 05:16 pm:

Absolutely lovely! This is the type of picture
which should appear on T-shirts and notecards. It
really illustrates the magnificent beauty of the
U.P. Send in more pictures, Barb!

By Dotty, MI on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 06:11 pm:

It's Porter's Island, isn't it? Where the first government outpost was, before it was moved to the mainland.

By susan,VA on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 06:51 pm:

About the t-shirts. web site www.studioavenue.com will make prints and t-shirts and other fun stuff with digital pictures you send them. I have had prints made there and they do a good job. I haven't seen the tshirts

By RCW on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 08:27 pm:

Silver Island is on the Canadian side, isnt it?

By 100% Yooper, Mich on Friday, August 10, 2001 - 11:44 pm:

Right on Dotty.

It is Porters Island, where the first outpost was located before moving to the mainland.

I think that trivial/mystery photos should be a regular occurance here. It really makes the memories of U.P. Home go round and round in the mind, as we try to remember these places. And of course it is allways interesting to see the types of replies:-)
