I was not a member of this church but I did attend funeral services there for my Grandfather, Andrew Tikkanen, of Beacon Hill. The services were in 1944 and and mother always said that this was the last funeral service at the church. I stopped there last summer and took pictures too. My Aunt Hilma Koivu (Tikkanen) painted a nice water color of it from a photo and her memory in the 80's. So sad to see the lakeshore towns fade away.

I may have attended this church as a child and think itis a shame that it would be left to go to ruins. I thought somebody had bought it for a reason. Yes I am the LSK married to GHK. Where in the cemetary are Helmi and Uno. Keturi stone is right past the Kuosa stone. Paavo, Tekla and Eino. GHK lived across the road from the Kousas.

Uno and Helmi Loukinen are buried to the right a little way in from where the cemetery road turns to the left. Mom died in 5/1987 and Isa 5/1989.

I remember as a child visiting my great granparents in Redridge and passing this landmark many times. Some of you might remember Henry and Hilja Hiltunen. Henry worked at the stamp mill in Freda for many years until they closed it down. Lots of childhood memories in the Redridge area for me.

There was a time, a couple of years ago that we were out on a Copper Country cruise, and came upon this old church. We stopped to look around, and when we were in the basement, there was an old book on the floor/ground, and one of the pack bent over and picked it up, and by the time she turned around to face the rest of us, this funny little wind picked up and blew right through the blown out window and turned the pages of the old book. It wasn't a Bible either. We dropped that and about ran over the top of each other trying to get out. There's a WOW~!!!

Paavo Kuosa was buried from this church on Monday, August 20, 1951.

RR can you tell us where in Minnesota you live.GHK's sister lives in Baxter, Minnesota. She used to live near Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

I probably didn't remember what Mother said as I didn't have the date right anyway. It was 1946 my grandfather was buried from Redridge church. He is buried in Liminga Cemetary with my grandmother Maria Lisa Tikkanen, their 2 year old daughter Linda, and my father and mother Herbert and Helmi Seppala.

RR I thought you were in Minnesota but maybe it is Steve Ristola who also had messages on here. If you were the manager we may have met you at the Museum several years ago. Steve is a relative of yours I assume.

What religion was this church. My grandmother grew up in Beaconhill. I used to go to red ridge alot and that church always caught my eye. I would like to fix it and get married there, it is such a beautiful building. To bad it got destroyed. Why did it?

Does anyone know of old churches for sale? My husband and I have been trying to buy one in the keewanaw area. We had an offer in on a church in Calumet but the deal didn't go threw. We don't have much money but, are young and have time to work at a restoration. We have been collecting church furnishings. My house is so full we really need a proper place to put all our treasures. Any Help out there????

My wife, three children and I stopped at this church last week while in the area. I took pictures and thought about days gone by. I would have loved to have gone in but the front staircase had broken. I seen an old stove in the basement but didn't think it was safe to venture in there either. (I was also thinking about snakes!)Anyway, I love the Copper country area and will return again for my third time.

What a pleasure to see the old church...the Keturi family has visited it often. We always look forward to our visits up in the North Country.

As I have posted earlier, my family has a vacation place up in Redridge, right on the shore of the Lake. I always look forward to spending time up with my family. Just about every time I got up to Redridge, I want to see this old church. I have always dreamed of going inside, but wasn't able to because of my mom, Jill. I always have enjoyed being up with Jesse, my cousin, and Lois Keturi, my gramma. A lot of Keturi's have history in Redridge, but Keturi is a Finnish name (Ket-Ur-Ie). I always enjoy learning about Redridge and their history up there!

I am trying to shoot a low budget independent film in an old abandoned church. I would need a location for about 2-3 weeks.

Who owns this church? How could I contact them???

If anyone has any leads re: old churches anywhere in Illinos, or MI, I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Does anyone have information on the big, old building on the northside of the road just east of Ontonagon. The road that goes to Greenland. I have been told that it was possibly a orphanage.

I just spent the past two weeks trvelling around the U.P. I stopped in Redridge to check out the old church. Each time I had visited in the past, the church was more deteriorated that the previous time. When I visited in Oct. 2003, the roof of the old church was sagging and I knew its days were numbered.

When I visited there two weeks ago, I sadly discovered that the church is now gone. There is just a pile of rubble where the church once stood. I saw some charred pieces of wood, so I suspect that the church burnt down sometime over the past year. As described by David above on 7/30/01, there was an old stove in the basement. The stove now lays mangled in the pile of rubble. I personally am sad to see that this church is gone.
