I thought that you would like a picture from the other side of the U.P. This picture was taken this week on June 6th. This picture is of a small lake just outside of Trout Lake, MI. It was taken off of my parents deck.

Our thanks to Thomas Simpson for this guest photo. It is very difficult to get shots in such low light. I know it has been hard for me to capture it (see Keweenaw Moon)

Would just like to say Hi from Toledo, OH. My husband and I are planning a trip to the UP in the fall. We have traveled a lot but have never been to the UP. We are enjoying this website so much. We will be up there for two weeks and I am thinking that will not be long enough. We are both bird watchers and I am especially interested in the Gray Jays. The Blue Jay's favorite cousin. Are the any other Gray Jay fans out there. I have been to Algonquin Park in Canada and have hand fed them there. But I also read that they are seen in the UP. They are known as the "CampRobbers". A much smaller version of your black bear. If there are any hot spots for the Gray Jays could someone please let me know where. Thanks.

Just wondering if the Gray Jay is the same as a Canadian Jay. Or a Lumberjack? Are they all the same birds? I've seen them in the UP not far from Watson. Wow! Two beautimous moon shots!

It is difficult with a camera--true. But, what if you create the image from the ground up in a 3D graphics program?

These UP moon photos made me think of one of the images our son Daniel Torkelson recently created using a combination of 3 computer graphics programs. The image is of Torch Lake Dredge #2 on a clear night, with moon and stars. Most people who see it think it's a photo, but the only parts that started from photos are the textures used for the siding and the stampsands.
