Every now and then Doug Smith sends us a shot which perfectly portrays current conditions in the Keweenaw... even though most of his photos are taken miles from here (like his Lake Michigan shots back in the winter). This morning when I hopped out of bed, I saw outside our window, here above the dunes in Eagle River, this very scene. The sky is very blue, the air is chilly, and the apple blossoms next door are abounding.

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend.

The pasty cam continues to quietly make the world a better place by reminding us of the beauty all around us. Thank You!

I sure wish I had a nice tree like that in my yard. All my trees are covered with tent worm nests! Thanks for the nice photo!

As I scramble around with 4 young children trying to get a house ready to sell and still keep up w/ my job and other daily rigors, a shot like this reminds me that life goes on around me and helps keep things in perspective. Thanks Charlie.

I too have apple trees that the caterpillers are trying to eat. I am trying to save four of them by hitting all of the nests with wasp spray. With the ability to shoot 20 feet and standing on a ladder, I have managed to get almost all of the nests in my 4 apple trees. Unfortunately, the rest of my trees will not be that lucky. But I want apples this year, as I got not a one last year. Be careful when using the wasp spray. Don't kill the bees that are pollinating the blossoms. Maybe this year I will have warm apple pie. Yum, yum.

I have two apple trees in my back yard. One is all full of blossoms, the other has very few. But do they ever smell good!!! Loaded with bees. :o) :-) Waiting for ripe apples already.

I looked at your picture of the apple blossoms this evening, and it made me quite homesick for my home state, and especially for the Keeweenaw! Our home was built in a 50's development on the edge of what used to be an orchard. Every spring the remnants of that orchard would come alive with a cloak of fresh smells and soft color. I hope that you will include this picture soon among the "Wallpaper of the Week."

This will be the third year of our ugly little visitors since they left in the early eighties.
Cars slide off the country roads, and patios are covered, excluding people barbecuing!
The first year wasn't so bad, but last year it was just grotesque. I am terrified to see how they are going to multiply this year. It is said that a hose with dish detergent kills them, and in our local newspaper it is recommended to smash, burn or rip off the cocoons that are hibernating on the sides of houses and in trees. Caterpillars have never been a phobia for me, but there are just too many. I once was afraid of spiders, but compared to the millions of caterpillars I would have a spider for a room mate any day. I need help!!!!
