The folks we remember this month include:

Ed Egan
Wanda Lee
Angela Jeffery
Kaitlin Jeffery
Sara Jeffery
Gordy Peterson
Dale Earnhardt

Nothing like a Keweenaw sunset to remind us that the end of the day here marks the beginning of another over there.

Your thoughts and memories are welcome.

Great shot Jon!

By CheddarJohn on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - 05:10 pm:

Dale Earnhardt will be missed. Although I'm a Richard Petty fan, one still has to admire the competitiveness of Dale. He'll be missed on the track, in NASCAR circles, and in the hearts of NASCAR fans.

It was rather eerie seeing Dale Jr. hit the wall in turn three at Rockingham in the first lap. Fortunately he's alright--but the crash looked like a carbon copy.

Back on the race tracks, Go Dodge! I just have to pick which Dodge driver to root for--maybe start at the ground level with rookie Casey Atwood? Cheer on Sterling Marlin? John Andretti, who now steers #43? Or Kyle Petty, Richard's son who himself lost a son in a track accident in New Hampshire last year?

By Matt, NY on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - 07:49 pm:

Looks like the beach at redridge. I miss that place :)

By Cus, Utah on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - 08:08 pm:

I have almost exactly the same picture hanging on my wall here in Utah... took it a couple of years ago at my dad's house at the Calumet waterworks.
Could that be the Portage lighthouse in the distance?

Nice pic, gotta love Superior.

By Don Effinger, Michigan on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - 11:11 pm:

It's been 10 days since Black Sunday when Dale Earnhardt was killed. It all seems like a dream!I watched the race on Monday and couldn't get into it. However, I was happy to see a Dale Earnhardt, Inc car take the checkered flag! He would have been happy and proud. I think he gave Steve Park a little shove to save his fuel. I've been a DE fan since he drove the blue and yellow Chevy in the 70's and no one will ever take his place. I'm putting my hopes on Dale, Jr. for some good racing. He learned from the best!

Let's not forget all the serviceman that died in tragic air-related accidents while protecting and serving our country over the past few months either...seems to me they should deserve more recognition than a stock car racer...can anyone name these serviceman ???
pretty sad...eh?

By Gerald Cronenworth, Western New York on Thursday, March 1, 2001 - 08:55 am:

Your right on the mark Scott.
Its sad but true, there is a lot of celebrity worship these days.

By Judy, MI on Thursday, March 1, 2001 - 10:08 am:

And lets not forget the Jefferys, Mother and two little daughters killed a fire. They will be missed too.

By Cathy, Wheaton, IL on Thursday, March 1, 2001 - 11:29 am:

Here they are Scott:
Maj. Robert Olsen
CWO George Perry
CWO Greg Montgomery
Sgt. Thomas Barber
SPC Bob MacDonald
SPC Rafael Olvera-Rodriguez
You made a good point. We should always remember the men and women who have died in the service of our country. Semper Fi.....From a Woman Marine who served!

By #3 Forever on Thursday, March 1, 2001 - 11:40 am:

You were the Intimidator - the black #3
The greatest NASCAR driver the world has ever seen
It would be the Daytona 500 that would be your last
Mike and Jr. ahead, you made sure no one got past
On Black Sunday, a legend you became
To me NASCAR will never be the same.

By court on Thursday, March 1, 2001 - 11:57 am:

RE:Scotts message of March 1,01
No one should receive more or less recognition, all of their deaths were tragic.

By Erin Finger-Bowen on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 - 07:02 pm:

My Uncle "Woody Finger" died on February 28, 2001.
This picture is kind of like a memorial to him too. He and the whole "Finger clan" grew up in Houghton.

Thanks for the picture!

By Kristy MI on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 - 11:29 pm:

This picture is dedicated to "Nancys Mom"...may she rest in peace.

By Ann, MI on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 10:21 am:

It's time for everyone to get over NASCAR! Please.

By NASCAR on Saturday, April 21, 2001 - 07:14 pm:

Why is it time for everyone to get over NASCAR?Should everyone get over baseball because of Daryl Strawberry? Should everyone get over football beacause of Ray Carruth, Ray Lewis, etc.?
Why must we get over NASCAR, if it is an interest to you and you like it why must you get over it. If anyone knows about NASCAR racing they would know that Dale Earnhardt was a legend. There may never be another racer in this day and age quite like him, he was the last of the old time racers still out on the track. So when someone must grieve and express their opinion and thoughts, I don't know why it's time to get over it!

By Ben Jeffery, Michigan on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - 08:10 pm:

I want to thank Charlie for mentioning my wife and two daughters on the website. And to my aunt jan. I wish that I had more time with them but I didn't.
I want everyone to think about how important family is. Think before your anger gets the best of you. Think about what you are argueing about because it is not worth it in the long run.
Thanks again for mentioning my family.
THEY WILL AND ARE MISSED EVERYDAY!!!
