Last Fall we were standing a bit closer to the water's edge, thanks to the Pasty Camistry of Matt Behrens (below), but today Jon Jacobson lets us drink in the bigger picture of this tranquil spot.

Michigan's Upper Peninsula is truly blessed, east and west, and all points in between with beauty.

Boy I love this job.

If this shot isn't the definition of "Winter Wonderland" than I'm not a Former Yooper!
Now, for some poetic contrast, how's about a picture of the Coal-Tar Blob at the bottom of Chequamegon Bay from your Western U.P. Photo-Correspondent?
I know a good mini-submarine rental place in Ashland.

Absolutely gorgeous! You did it again. Topped my favorite, the frozen lake fog scene. Thank you so much for the wonderful photography. It's unusually cold down here, actually freezing! Happy New Year!

Wow!

Why does the date indicate this picture is for Tuesday January 2? Isn't it for Thursday the 4th? It's still lovely, though!

By Pat, MI on Friday, January 5, 2001 - 10:53 am:

"Awesome" is the only word I can think of to describe this scene. Thank you for sharing it!

What a wonderful shot! Brings back many memories of winter visits to the Falls when I was just a little kid many years ago. My dad was (and is) an avid photographer, and in the last month or so had dug out an old slide he had taken of the Falls in winter about 35 years ago. Our family had trekked in to enjoy the beautiful outdoors that weekend, and it is amazing how similar the scene still is - what a treasure for the U.P. Another great wallpaper for my PC down here in Tucson!

To describe the beauty of this scene, one would have to bankrupt the entire English language!

As wonderful as this picture is....something is missing? Whenever we have visited this beautiful park, we have always been chased by those pesky little bugs that bite! Oh how nice it is to enjoy the view and not get bitten except by how beautiful nature can be in the middle of winter.

No question, you have a job many of us dream about!

By John Waara, Austin Texas on Friday, January 5, 2001 - 03:34 pm:

What an amazing photo! It makes me homesick for the UP and almost makes me miss winter.

By Jason Cooper, Michigan on Friday, January 5, 2001 - 03:57 pm:

What a beautiful shot! My husband had it on the computer as wallpaper and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Thank you. It brought back alot of memories of when I went to college in the U.P.

GREAT PICTURE. Set aside as the number one choice for 2002 Pasty Cam Calendar. Another indicator of God's wonderful creation.

The wonders of Nature I love the photos. I am reminded that I am but a small part of it all.

By Brant, Illinois on Saturday, January 6, 2001 - 12:36 am:

Beautiful! I haven't seen the falls in 32 years. These pictures take me back to the scenes of my childhood.

By Paul, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, January 6, 2001 - 03:20 pm:

What a perfect picture! The falls are a beautiful reminder of a Michigan winter. I cant wait to see them again. Nothing compares to da UP! Thanks for the reminder of home.

I have visited this place only once so far with the one person who makes my life complete. This is the place we both feel that we belong. That is why we should be married in this beautiful place. To Paul, I Love You so much! Soon Love!

By Lyndelle Chiomenti, Maryland on Saturday, January 6, 2001 - 09:13 pm:

What a coincidence! Just a few days ago, my husband and I were wondering what the falls looked like with all the snow and cold weather you've been getting. Have you bugged our house!? Thanks for keeping us in touch with the beauty of our second home!

By Cathy Prince, London, England on Monday, January 8, 2001 - 04:28 am:

My dad, Warren Brown, is about to retire and move to the U.P. from Illinois. He always talks about the scenery up there and how beautiful it is. This picture seems to capture his words beautifully.

By Andy, London England on Monday, January 8, 2001 - 04:34 am:

Stunning image, I hope to visit this year (2001).

I found this site looking for Upper Penninsula Pasties. My family is Finish and I'm originally from lower Michigan. I am captivated by the pictures, of my childhood memories. I moved to Arizona 20 years ago,and was 7 years old when my family visited Tahquamenon Falls on vacation...on our way to South Dakota. I'll never forget my mother saying that the water looked like tea because of the "minerals." I know a little more about minerals now than I did then. Thanks for the wonderful pictures. I'm addicted to this site!!!
