A dog is said to be man (and woman's) best friend. One thing for sure is they are very loyal creatures and can be counted on to always greet you with a wagging tail, showing their happiness at seeing you. Over in the Guest Gallery, we continue getting new additions, like this playful pup from Bryant Varney. She looks like she just had a good time rolling in the snow, next thing you know it'll be time to bite the snowballs off her paws!

The weather down here in Indian Shores, FL has been great. I don't think I've put pants on since we arrived here in Florida. Now don't go getting the wrong idea... I do have shorts on! Thanks to all the folks who have contacted me through email. It sure is great having my Pasty.net Nationwide Dial-in in order to stay in touch and on top of everything back at home!

It looks like Beau is making a snow dog. Stand up so we can see the impression.

By Toivo from Toivola on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 08:12 am:

Keweenaw got snow overnite, but today's doggie is actually covered in Marquette snow.

Interesting shots in Bryant's album - - especially "Pasty Snowbank". Love that crust.

My Beau had never seen snow, but he would have loved it. Just over a year and I still miss him.

By S. on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 09:28 am:

Hey i recognize a snowmobile track under the dog! I haven't been a Yooper for a while now but if i can find a job up there i will put on Sorel's and a flannel, not a Cromer tho' cause i'm a "goil", and reinstate my Yooper status.

In memory of Sassy, the best little dog ever.
She loved the Keweenaw, and died there. We will always miss you my friend.

In memory of Bear, Part Golden, part Rottweiler.
The best friend and dog my kids and I ever had.
Couldn't get the big lug in out of the snow.
Been gone for a little over a year now.
Sleep well my friend!

By Wannabe Musher on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 10:29 am:

Too slobbery....lol...just kidding....nothing like a humungous dog kiss to go with yer pasty! Hitch that dog up to a sled, put away the snowmobile, and watch the joy come back in your face!

By Linda in Genesee County on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 12:23 pm:

My Roscoe has been gone almost a year now and never a day goes by without me seeing his happy face and wagging tail in my mindseye. Roscoe loved to play in the snow and get a "snow face". He never made it to the UP in the winter, but he sure loved it in the fall. Dogs are truly God's gift to man. See you on the other side my friend.

Beautiful dog! She looks like she's taking a rest after playing so hard in the new snow. Bet she was up and running right after this pix.

A beautiful tribute to your brother, Pat. May God comfort and bless all those he left behind.

By Michele Houghton MI on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 01:51 pm:

All dogs are good!!! Sorry to all of you who have lost your friends--- I hope this helps to comfort you all!

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Comment on censorship & editing vocabulary.;--- editing vulgarity, etc, is not the same as eliminating an opinion, which Charlie never would do.

Isn't it amazing how a picture can conjure up so many emotions for so many people... especially a picture of a pet. This happy baby brings tears to my eyes even after two years. My Golden Retriever's name was Beamer and he loved to play and "snorkel" through the Yooper snow. When he died, we brought him "home" to rest for eternity in the place where he was born and the place that he loved the most... the U.P.

By Michele Houghton MI on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 08:03 pm:

I will say it again--- all dogs are good!! Today's thread certainly seems to show that--- all of us pet owners whether we are partial to the cainines or felines we love our pets. Need I say more! My deepest regards to all in mourning of lost furry four leggers!!

Fran, GA,

First...geepers, take care of that hip.

Second.... Indian Shores, FL is between Clearwater Beach and Treasure Island, on the Gulf Coast, just west of Tampa. As for the clarification...didn't want the good pasty.com visitors to think I'd gone wild! ;-)

Michele,
Thanks for posting Rainbow Bridge. When I lost my 12-year-old Black Lab, Kayla, a co-worker gave me a copy of Rainbow Bridge. I have since misplaced it. Thanks again.

By Sarah, WI on Saturday, March 6, 2004 - 10:20 am:

To Michele of Houghton MI,

Thank you so much for your beautiful thoughts. Unfortunately, some people just think of dogs as something to put outside & forget. My husband & I are not able to have children. I think it's harder for us because our dogs are our "kids". We lost Buddy four years ago & the Rainbow Bridge poem still makes me cry. But when I read it I am reminded that I will see him again. Thank you for being so wonderful!!! We need more people like you on earth!

By Pate' , Duluth, MN on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 01:05 pm:

This dog is the most well behaved, happy,
obedient, well mannered doggie I've ever met!
Beau is a beauty!! All because of the hard
work with him and attention given to him from
his owner, bryant. Beau gets more love than
most people do! Miss ya Bryant & Beau!
