By me, Illinois on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 - 02:40 pm:

Pat K of Illinois ~ You are such a sweetheart - - I don't mind telling you that you were always our favorite. Bill was, well, always very different from the rest of you - - sort of peculiar. Regarding the hook - - yes, Mom did finally get it out; unfortunately, her fascination with fireworks got the best of her (and some fingers).

See you in a few!!

By Pat K. Illinois on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 10:19 am:

Yo me of Illinois, Yes Bill K is my brother. We have not heard from you guys since we were fishing at Portage lake by the bridge. Did your mom ever get that hook out her finger? Bill is doing fine. He's tying his own shoes and his new set of teeth makes him look so darn good!! Please stop by and see us when we come up. It's good to hear from you. I still have that bladder problem but hopefully that will not be as big a problem as it was last year. Give us a call and maybe we can do lunch when we get up there!!!

By me, Illinois on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 03:01 pm:

Pat K of Illinois any relation to Bill K of Illinois?? We haven't received any updates on Bill's condition. The last time we saw him, he was learning to tie his own shoes (of course, they didn't stay tied, but we didn't say anything because we didn't want discourage him after he spent over an hour trying and trying). We did receive some sort of letter regarding contributions they were taking for Bill's dental fund. I just don't think I'd recognize Bill without all of his front teeth missing -- he's got such a happy smile. Well, be sure to visit us when you come up to the UP -- I think we'll be up there at the same time again this year!!

I heard a report on the stick problem you guys have been having this year. We are coming up in late July and was wondering if we need to take any precautions.

Thanks for the info on Nara's. It's sad to see it's gone but being family owned, I knew it wouldn't last forever. On the other hand, I'm happy to hear that Dreamland still has camping. I have camped there also as a kid. I haven't been there in years because of living in Tennessee but I'm back now and ready to head up.
Again Thanks.

My family and I were up visiting on Bootjack Road last week for the 4th. Enjoying ourself with friends and family out at Dreamland we were watching the eagles that are nesting there. I learned of this site from Todd at the Dreamland and wanted to share the eagle pictures with my family. How do I find them.

Ted, one place I know you can buy Thimbleberry Jam is the The Wood'n Spoon in Mohawk.

Also, you might take a look at the following fine sponsors who support Pasty Central and this web site:

Jam Lady
The Jampot (click "preserves")
Copperworld

I have a question to ask you all. As a kid, my parents used to bring us camping at a campground called "Nara's Campground" on Bootjack Road. About a mile or so from Dreamland Hotel if I remember right. Is it still there? I loved camping there and want to bring my kids there if I can. It was nothing fancy, just good old fashioned camping in a beautiful setting. I have done a search but came up empty; do they have a web-site? Thanks for any info you can give.

By Ted, California on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 - 11:20 pm:

I have run across this very vibrant site for the first time recently and was fascinated by all the discussion involving the Pine Street Church.

As a former OALC, I would like to correspond with "Missy", Exodus Member" and "Smilin' Now". I have an interest in religion in general and to "Exodus"... I do feel betrayed by the church. Pleae email me if interested.

Also... Does anyone know where I can purchase some thimbleberry jam?

Ted

Check out the Pasty Gallery album by
Rob Wetton, for a great picture of a Ship thru the bridge.

By Chris, PA on Monday, July 7, 2003 - 08:59 am:

Just curious, do the bridgetenders for the lift bridge know in advance of an opening for a large ship...or are they notified upon arrival...??

I'd like to see a pic on the cam in full lift.

By Andrew on Sunday, June 22, 2003 - 06:34 pm:

Maybe somebody can help me out. I remember a story on a PBS show about michigan about a guy who makes hand made wooden spoons. He had a shop where he sold his spoons in eagle harbor or eagle river, (I think) I am planing a trip to the UP in august. Is this guy still in business? Ans If he is where abouts is his shop?

You can email me direct at scaryart@webtv.net if you like, and I will also check back on this message board perodically

Thanks
Andrew

Steve, the bridgecam is on the Hancock side of the bridge.

By Steve, Missouri on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 10:42 pm:

What a beautiful pic of the lift bridge. I was fortunate to be able to enjoy all that Houghton/Hancock & surrounding areas have to offer while painting it. It's been awhile since, & I can't figure out which side the camera is on. Thanks.

By Susan Seppala-Conte, Ferndale MI on Friday, June 13, 2003 - 07:50 pm:

If anyone in Dollar Bay or Tamarack/Hubbell remembers Gary, Pam, Karen and Sue Seppala, I'd love to hear from you. Although my brother Gary passed away in June 1992, my 2 sisters and I live as "Trolls" in the suburbs down state with our families. Sorry that none of us ever made it to one of the reunions even though we graduated at our school down state, we all feel the U.P. was home. Glad to see my Uncle Ray Seppala got to attend his last year. Drop me a line.

By Clara, TX on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 - 11:31 am:

How do I get to the site of The Bridge paper? I was told there is an article about my mom in there. I'd like to read it. Thanks. Clara
