One of the many enjoyable things about snow on the ground, is building a snowman. A must-do, especially with the first snow of the season! Of course we're well past our first snow here in the Winter Wonderland. David Roberts brings us this little darling and her snowman, complete with a title to make you chuckle... "Can I have my hotdog back now?" Looks like it might be a Vollwerth's natural casing! Quite a unique U.P. choice for decorating a snowman. Charcoal, coal, carrots, rocks, branches, those were my standbys... and of course a funky hat!

By Taka @ Japan on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 07:48 am:

We are having a warm winter over in Japan. Because there is no snow, none of the skiing areas are on business now.

Today, Mr. Donn de Yampert kindly provided one of his photos to CUTOnion.com.

Looking at the lift bridge cam this morning, It appears that ice is forming on the canal under the bridge.

"Do not feed children on a maudlin sentimentalism or dogmatic religion; give them nature. Let their souls drink in all that is pure and sweet. Rear them, if possible, amid pleasant surroundings ... Let nature teach them the lessons of good and proper living, combined with an abundance of well-balanced nourishment. Those children will grow to be the best men and women. Put the best in them by contact with the best outside. They will absorb it as a plant absorbs the sunshine and the dew".

How can one view all of the pictures from the 2004 calendar?

By Toivo from Toivola on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 02:24 pm:

By ordering one.

Is this a trick question?

By Dave Maryland on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 02:30 pm:

S, The best way to view the photos on the 2004 calendar is to buy one. $12.00 isn't much for some beautiful pictures of the UP. I received mine yesterday along with some great tasting pastys. I also picked up the Heikki Lunta CD and played it yesterday. The darn song works, there calling for SNOW tonight in Maryland. Love your web site, keep up the great work.

By Love the Snow! on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 02:54 pm:

That's one lively snowman, almost looks like he's gonna start dancing! He and the cutie in the snowsuit made me smile today!

By Janet, MA on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 03:44 pm:

Very cute. The green lawnchair in the background adds a special touch.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 04:14 pm:

I just realized that TODAY is the only date mentioned in the Heikki Lunta Snowdance Song:

We gotta have some snow by the 4th of December,
"Heikki Lunta make it snow!"
say all the Range Club members...

Heikki Lunta go away...
By Janie on Thursday, December 4, 2003 - 05:53 pm:

The snowman looks a lot like the snowman in the movie "Jack Frost".
