Some of my favorite shots in the Guest Gallery are those scans of old photos which probably have been stuck away for years in an old shoebox. Robert Torreano has a few in his album, including the second one above, simply labelled "Flossie". Nice pose.

In recent days I've been listening to the morning weather report on Marquette's WHWL by way of their new streaming audio. They're telling us we could see quite a bit of snow this week, all across the U.P. Guess I better spend some time in the garage and dig out the trusty Silver Bear snow scoop.

Good Morning ! Looks like Flossie is single-handly holding up about a 12ft snowbank ! Yikes!
Is the building, in the top phot, a local bar?

By Marvin, Bumbletown on Sunday, November 23, 2003 - 09:31 am:

We are back at our Bumbletown Home after spending the last few months on the road working. When we moved home last May we were greated by the beauty and wonderful smells of spring flowers here on the hill. This morning the hill is covered by a blanket of fresh snow. We are going to settle down to a relaxing winter and once again enjoy the beauty of nature and life on our Hill in the Copper Country.

Charlie, I think you have the wrong link to last week's pictures.

By Chris, IL on Sunday, November 23, 2003 - 10:18 am:

I missed yesterday's cam picture, but the link to last week, takes you to November 9-15. Thanks Charlie.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Sunday, November 23, 2003 - 10:44 am:

To see last week, try the link again on the Pasty Cam page, which has been corrected. Also we added a link for Pasty Softwear for shoppers looking for mugs, aprons, books, calendars, refrigerator magnets, etc., etc. - for the pasty lover in your family.

The top photo looks like the Albion station. It is now a business that does glass blowing. I grew up around the corner from there. It was a little grocery store then. It had a little soda fountain, and I especially remember the cookie section. The display consisted of glass doors that held behind them various kinds of loose cookies that you could select and bag. Also a fresh meat counter with the old hand slicer if you wanted to buy a half pound of minced ham or salami etc., and the best selection of penny candy anywhere. Whenever I had a penny, you know where I headed. The good old days, sigh!

We have a shot like this from the early '50s. Where I live now we're lucky to get snow five days during the winter. We rarely get this much, but we can get a blizzard. It shuts down the panhandle for days. I do love the old photos though.

Reminds me of the "good old days" growing up in Mohawk. Haven't seen that much snow since I became a transplanted yooper in '66. Down here in the Detroit area when they get 4 inches of snow the city comes to a halt!!! 4 inches in the Keweenaw is just a "dusting"!!! Sure do miss it!!

Welcome back Marvin. Have wondered where you were.

To MJ MI-
I'm impressed you can tell what this building looks like with all that snow!
Love that Flossie picture! Can anyone tell where THAT picture was taken, Hehehe?

It is true ya' know.. There's no place like home. Even if it is just via the net. Though I am a Troll by birth I am a Yopper in my heart. Visiting this web sight reaffirms that almost daily for me. This past week I was in one of the ugliest and busiest towns I have even been in. Washington, DC. Had no pc to connect to to get my pasty.com fix and had major withdrawal. Coming "home" this evening to Pasty.com has all ready soothed my soul. Again THANKS for a great job Charlie & gang.

Look at the roof... NO SNOW !! That's what you call good insulation ! I mean NO insulation !

I love the picture of the woman standing by the snowbank. I have a similar photo of my mom standing by a snowbank in Dollar Bay back in the early 50's (when she was expecting me). The snow pictures are great to see after not living back home for a number of years, and fun to show people who can hardly believe anywhere could have so much snow. As always, thanks to everyone who shares their treasured photos with the rest of us, as well as those who share their memories and comments. There is no website better than pasty.com!!!

Most of that snow is just pile from the snowgo.

If you look closely at the house and the snow you can see an image of a man carved into the snow bank.... Jim Johnson

Ah, yes ... I remember it well! I'll have to send
the link to my husband, who has accused me
of making up stories about snow banks so tall
my dad had to climb out a second story
window to go down and shovel (in St. Ignace
in the 1950s). Those pictures clinch it ... it's
true, it's true.

Thanks so much for all the reminders of home
I find on pasty.com. I may have become a
Floridian (I am told I qualify as "nearly native"
since I've been here 25 years now), but you
can NEVER take the U.P. out of the girl!!

By Dave H, Tennessee on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 01:23 pm:

That's about how high the banks were around the Copper City ice rink next to Mike Stimac's store about late January after all the shoveling and scraping and scooping. We then had to "shovel the banks back" so they wouldn't fall back over the boards onto the ice. Is that why my back is so sore now? And the rink itself: we would 'make' it in early December. Any of you remember the "all-nighters" of flooding the surface repeatedly until we had a good thickness of ice? Couldn't wait to get out and skate and play hockey!

I love the fashion from Flossie's day. What beauty! That coat and boot's are so nice!

That photo reminds me of the year 1976 when my folks moved us kids back to the U.P. for a year.We lived in Kearsarge, the snow almost buried our 2 story house. After that winter we moved back to western Washington,I miss the U.P.!
