We kick off another week of the Pasty Cam with a gian snowshoe from the snowshoe priest, Bishop Baraga. I believe this is Art Chaput, one of the builders back in the 1960's. Our thanks to Rick Anderson for posting several photos about the construction of the memorial.

AHA! First post! I just wanted to reiterate my thanks for this website. I check it daily (sometimes twice when especially homesick), and am extremely grateful for the wonderful images from home.

I'm ever grateful for this site, too!

Cool pic today! Zoomed me back to snowshoeing with my grandpa's old snow shoes back when I was in HS. I walked for miles in the woods by my house. Sometimes our dog would follow and he'd end up with hundreds of little snowballs hanging off his fur, which he'd then have to chew off after we got home! GREAT memories. Still love snowshoeing even here in NJ. (Especially before anyone else gets to the snow!!) Even got my hubby to enjoy it as much as I do.

Wow, by the way, is that giant shoeshoe "sculpture" still around?

The giant snowshoe sculpture was
yesterday's cam shot.....Bishop Baraga Shrine. The statue is located on the cliff of Keweenaw Bay, between Baraga and L'Anse and can been seen from US41.

I'm just glad that Bishop Baraga wasn't known
as the "Snowmobiling Priest"...

To Mary Drew,

Thank you for the info... I did't look close enough at the pics!

I have a vivid childhood memory of visiting a garage or some other building in Lake Linden (I think) when the sculptor was working on Bishop Baraga. How awesome to see the parts up so close.
