Foggy Morning at Bootjack    ...scroll down to share comments
Photos by Robert C. Wetton

Toivo, edging the Yukon on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 04:33 am:

Lake Linden is kind of a hub for areas like Trap Rock Valley and Bootjack, where we find today's photo. Looks like back home it has been a little hot - then cool. That tends to happen when you live next to nature's biggest air conditioner. Thanks to R.C.Wetton for a nice start to the week.

Hope everybody got their voltage back after the famous blackout last week. Did you hear? Eino was visiting New York City when the power failed, and he got trapped halfway down a big escalator. His rescue was delayed several hours while the fire department dealt wit da traffic.

So close to Alaska now I can almost taste it, but - hey, a guy comes all this way, he might as well get the whole tour. Two more provinces and Canada will be complete. Spending the night at Whitehorse, eager to find Northwest Territories tomorrow, just to say I been there.

Good night from Sgt. Preston's old stomping ground, and good morning from da U.P.
yk

hey, first to post......, the fog reminds me of the smoke from the forest fires here in idaho, nice sunsets tho, but bad for the asthma (sp?) sufferers

By Luanne, Dickeyville WI on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 10:11 am:

Whitehorse! Toivo you are soooo close to Skagway, Alaska! What a great place!

R.C. Wetton's photo above is taken in Bootjack, outside of Lake Linden. It's a beauty for sure!

By Fran,Ga on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 02:17 pm:

Bob,that is a really nice picture. I agree it has a cooling look to it.The contrast between the light, fog and the trees is very interesting. This should be on the calender.

By Marge in Cincinnati on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 03:14 pm:

Yow! I apologize for my kvetch of last week about "family albums." This pic more than makes up for it! I just got the shot I needed to finish the afternoon of writing the definitions of the elements of the Job Cost Summary.

By Sherry, Gulfport MS on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 05:08 pm:

Dad, that sure is a WINNER - wish I could be there instead of enduring this stifling heat in MS. By the way, do you have the sauna lit? Love, Sherry

By Fran,Ga on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 05:33 pm:

I'm with you Sherry, wouldn't it be great to be in cool weather. I am sure it feels like a sauna when you go out your door. It sure does here in Ga. Just awful.

By Fran,GA on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 06:10 pm:

Alex, maybe Toivo will drive one of those "Ducks" like we have here in Chatt. They go on land and in the water!!

Camps please email me if you see this.

By RCW Bootjack on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 07:33 pm:

It feels like a Sauna outside here today!! Highs in the 90s. Water temp near shore about 75 degrees.

By DEE CC on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 11:09 pm:

IF NONE OF YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN TO THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR, GO ! WE GO EVERY YEAR IT SURE IS NICE! IT SURE IS SOMETHING TO SEE. WHEN YOU ARE WALKING WITH OVER 100,000 PEOPLE SIDE BY SIDE! IT SURE IS DIFFERENT FROM THE HOUGHTON COUNTY FAIR. WE ARE HOOKED, AND WE WILL NOT MISS A YEAR OF IT.

By Mary Ann, WY on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 12:22 am:

Another WOW! What a great photo.

By Ken from da UP on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 12:40 am:

Hei, RCW, I like the lights on in your pic. Makes the place look downright friendly, 'eh? I took a pic of the foggy sunrise here, too, in Cornell. (With the disposable type camera.) When I get the CD back, I'll try and figure out how to put them in an album.

By geri, kingsford on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 01:09 am:

i have a request, does any one remember the lyrics to a beattle song , that had the words"will you still love me when i am 64?" anyway I think those are the lyrics) parts of the lyrics are swirlling in my head but i can't quite get it right. i know there are many fans out there that know all their lyrics and if you could pass the lyrics on to me of this song( i don't know what the title is, but the one phrase keeps trying to roll around in my head and i can't get a hold of it, i would greatly appreciate the favor. someone told me they thought george harrison sang it.

going through our heads all day reminding us
of the good old days.;-)

By Kevin K. Lodi,Ca on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 06:09 am:

When I'm 64 - The Beatles
When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

You will be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.
I could be handy, mending a fuse.

When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday morning go for a ride,

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

By Scott stuck in the 50's in Indiana on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:58 am:

Kevin,
You answered question #1 what about #2 who sang the song was it george or was it it paul?

By Joe , MI on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 10:35 am:

It's the smoke from the sauna. Not everything is what it may appear to be.
NIce shot Bob.

By geri, kingsford on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:50 am:

RCW Bootjack....Last year I sold the old family place just down the road from your spot. My dad bought it '47 and we all loved the old place but time marches on and I found it too hard to argue with "mother nature" who wanted to take it back each year...the roof was the last of my projects to deal with on my own.......anyhow I loved your picture...it always made me sad to see the fog roll in off the "big" lake in the morning......ment summer was almost over and we had to close for another year....Thanks for the lovely reminder of a beautiful spot....hope you met the new owners, a nice family from Cedarburg, Wisc....I really did screen potential buyers because I wouldn't let just anyone have that special place. These folks restored the old broken down log-cabin Johnny Bootjack put up about 80 yrs ago on the property..others wanted to tear it down!!It really looks GREAT!!...anyhow these folks are a nice addition to the Bootjack community and that was important to me.

By CE from Oregon on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 04:51 pm:

Beautiful shot! You captured it perfectly, I appreciate nice photography. Thanks from Oregon.

By Kevin K Lodi, Ca. on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 02:14 am:

For Geri in Kingsford and Scott stuck in the 50's
My source's tell me that Paul sang "When I'm 64".

By Mike - Pontiac, MI on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 11:04 am:

Kevin in Lodi
Nice work with the lyrics and classics they are.
"In the isle of Wight, if it's not too dear".
The meaning for "too dear" was meant to be too expensive or pricey?
I do not have a source on the singer but when I read the lyrics Pauls voice sang out from the screen.

good stuff

By Kent, MA on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 01:46 pm:

"When I'm 64" is a Lennon/McCartney composition, so it is definitely Paul The Walrus.

By Kent, MA on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 01:50 pm:

btw - When I'm 64 was played at the 40th Wedding Anniversary of my folks this summer. Here's a picture:
ahhhh

By Mike, Howell on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 01:46 pm:

The fog looks like our camp driveway. Where was the picture taken...the first bend past the boat launch??
