It has become a mini vacation for me each morning to browse new photos in the Guest Gallery. Here's a new one from Donn de Yampert which takes us on a walk with some U.P. visitors who are, no doubt, enjoying their time together. Ideal conditions this morning, a bit on the cool side, and the sun is peaking through the trees just like today's picture.

Donn has also added a number of shots to the Escanaba - Gladstone album, the first of many U.P. towns we will be spotlighting in the coming weeks. If you have pictures of an area in the U.P. for which we have not created an album, simply email gallery@pasty.com for your ID and password and the area you have photographed. (I just noticed there have been almost a thousand photos uploaded so far this month.)

By the way, don't forget this weekend is the Strawberry Festival in Chassell. For more info, visit Einerlei.com

I'll be there a week from tomorrow. I am looking forward to escaping from the heat in southern Indiana.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 08:43 am:

I leave for the UP a week from tomorrow. Can't wait.

By Amy , MI on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 08:52 am:

I'll be there for a week in August, with absolutely no plans! I am looking for some possible volunteer opportunities in the area (maybe Habitat for Humanity, perhaps Still Waters needs a pasty chef??, etc.) If anyone has any ideas, please pass them along!

By Tyler Korfhage GR MI on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 09:32 am:

Will be in the UP a week from this Friday. Can't wait to get to a piece of heaven.

By pegg in da UP instead of Fla. on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 10:14 am:

Hey Alex & Fran, Guess where I am until after Labor Day? Sort of cold and ugly UP here this morning but much better than simmering in Fla.

By Frank, St. Charles IL on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 10:41 am:

I'm just wondering if I'm missing it, but where is the link that used to show the list of current messages? It was so handy to be able to see all the days that had new messages (from the blue link color), because new messages are posted alll over the place (not just on the current day). It was http://www.pasty.com/cgi-bin/discuss/board-newmessages.cgi?method=last&number=4&units=1440&tree=ON&where=all

Charlie, thanks for your hard work setting up the photo galleries--VERY cool!

Frank, St. Charles IL:

When you get to
The Pasty Cam page, look above and to the right of the current days picture, you'll see a "Cam Notes" in the last 24 hours link.

We are coming UP tomorrow night and will be staying near Chassell. Can somebody tell me more about the Straberry Festival? The Einerlei web page did not give many details. Is there a schedule of events. I guess it will not be too difficult to find them in Chassell.

By MJN03, Arizona on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

MRN-

I am assume the page below is a current list of activities and events for the Strawberry Festival for this year. This is the most comprehensive list I have found ??!!

From the sounds of it the roads UP there are going to be really crowded a week from tomorrow. I will be adding to the congestion and looking forward to a visit in Laurium. Can't wait!

By Mike B, Pittsburgh, wishin I was back in the Yoop on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 03:31 pm:

Just returned after a week in the beautiful Crystal Falls area. Wish I could stay there. Had a great time at my class reunion(Forest Park Class of '83). Also had a family reunion of sorts out at Runkle Lake the next day. While we were up, the wife and I went on the Keweenaw Star Fireworks cruise on the 3rd. What a great time and a great bunch of people.

Can't wait to get back again. Only been back 2 days and I'm already homesick again.

More cool photos from pasty.com. Awesome stuff. I'll be there on Sunday afternoon, and will more than likely have a pasty, and a sauna by 10 pm. A couple Old Milwaukees too?? Wish I could make it in time for the strawberry festival, but I'll be a day late. It's around 100-103 degrees here, so those low to mid 70's will feel mighty fine. I can't wait. Lots of good Suomalainen food waiting for me to enjoy again. It don't get no better...than a trip home.

By Tina, Howell, MI on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 07:44 pm:

I just returned from a trip to Freda. It's still so beautiful up there! The weather was chilly, which is fine with me. I've learned to pack jeans and a sweatshirt for a July visit. Man that drive home is a killer though--too many orange barrels!

By Sam/Alabama on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 08:48 pm:

Tina, Where were those Orange barrels ? I'm traveling up this weekend !

By Tina, Howell on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 11:38 pm:

Well coming south (for the way home) by Sterling Road on I75 and in the UP, I was stopped twice around Champion I believe. I think they're making another passing lane and repairing the road. When I went up on Sunday, I had no problems, they had the lanes pretty clear. Good luck. Bring your jacket! I'm going back in August..........:o)

By DC on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 11:47 pm:

By Alex and Fran, Stuck in Georgia on Thursday, July 10, 2003 - 11:59 pm:

Alex is blinking in disbelief at Pegg! YOU SAID YOU WOULD PUT FRAN AND I IN A SUITCASE AND BRING US!

By Fahunter39@msn.com on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 12:09 am:

Alex, just look at us! Pegg just left here in this heat and RAIN to get moldy and develop webbed feet. POOR US!!

By The Z-Man on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 12:23 am:

DC: Jan Tucker is now on WUPY 101.1 FM. She is on the air from 9:00am to 10:00am.

By Dave the River Slave mo on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 02:15 am:

Hey Donn: try cropping in on tight to the adults'
arms (left and right) and see what that does to
this image. It's really nice at it is but a little
cropping really draws you into the hands and
their "in-stepness" (not to mention the leading
lines of the roadway and woods). Beautiful
moment…the little one's feet are both off the
ground aren't they? What a fun image! Dave.

Wow, I'm impressed with the wonderful photos! Now I'm making connections with other UP admirers. Didn't know my secret is'nt secret after all. My spirit is at Lake Superior. Sometimes it's a couple years before I can return to re join it and be whole. Thanks everyone who makes this pasty-connection possible. God bless.

Have lived in a dozen places, visited hundreds more. Lake Linden remains my favorite location. May have the good fortune to move back there some day. Wayne, Cedarburg and St. Germain WI.
