This is the Finnish Gymnastics Club of South Range, Michigan, taken between 1910 and 1920. The club members are standing in front of the Saima Hall in South Range. The village garage is presently on the site where this Finnish Meeting Hall stood. Members of the club were as follows:

bottom left to right: Tulppo, Hepoojo, Klemetti, H. Lahikainen, Henry Kokko, H. Kangas, Eskola, Heikkila, and Lahto

middle left to right: Palonen, Albin Lahikainen, Olgren

top: Matt Miller

I thought this might be of interest for your Sunday picture in light of the Village of South Range's Centennial Celebration through the 4th of July. I understand the elementary school has a large display of village photos from the past 100 years. Pasty Cam viewers might want to stop in for a look!

The display at the South Range Elementary is very well put together and quite a sight to see. There is a lot of history just waiting to be looked at! Hats off to all who were involved in preparing and displaying the photos.

Susan, thanks for sharing the terrific photo. It is especially nice when the people in the photo are indentified. Bet everyone checks to see if someone from their family is in the photo......I sure did...Oh well, maybe next time.

I want to add that Saima Hall was on First Street in South Range and was first known as the Temperence Hall.

A correction to two names should be noted. Hepoojo should be Hepooja and Lahto should be Lehto.

Very interesting to me since my grandfather came over from Finland with a gymnastics team, name of Andrew Finni- married Inez Makki settled in Crystal Falls on a small farm. My Dad, William Finni played football for Crystal Falls in the late 30's,--any info anyone??
