After a busy weekend of travel, Edie and I are back home in Eagle River. Last night leaving Escanaba, we just had to grab a shot of all the flags at Garden of Rest. Several visitors to these memorial gardens were leaving fresh flowers and spending some time remembering.

Hope your family has a restful and meaningful holiday.

If you've followed the Pasty Cam over the last 6 years, you have frequently seen Gitche Gumee in Eagle River, and some of the campers we've come to know and love. Two of those campers were married over the weekend... but not to each other. The former Mandy Utecht's wedding was on Saturday in Oshkosh, and Andy Ewert's took place in Escanaba Sunday afternoon. Click their name to see a picture/comment page.

On this Decoration Day

Please allow me to humbly say to all who served our country to protect our freedom THANK YOU! And to the familes of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice please know we have not, nor never will forget your sons and/or daughters nor the empty spot in your hearts their deaths have caused you.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Greetings from Escanaba..I just returned home after the service at Garden's of Rest Cemetery..and it was beautiful with all the flags flying in the sun...but I would have rather been at Lake Linden's Mount Calvery Cemetery where my personal heroes: E Gary Curtin (Navy) and Fred A Studer (Army) are buried..I could not be there this year but the Lake Linden Legion had a really nice serice last year......bless all our heroes who are willing to serve this blessed land.......

First time I've seen it in a number of years.

Well, I must say that the fine veterans of the U.P. honor the deceased warriors. My mother and
late father are charter members of the South
Range post (Beckius). Mom still,at almost 82,
makes the rounds to Winona,Tivola, etc on this
day to show we remember what they gave for us.
Dad served in the Pacific and Mom (a nurse)was
in Europe. Very proud of them.
God bless all the people that served.

Thank you to all those who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy in the US and the UP. God certainly has blessed America!
Mimi and I went to the Ch 6 dance at Wakefield on Saturday. Kilpela and Friends and Mike Rydeski and the Polka Jacks were the music. We heard some beautimous accordian selections from Mr. Jim Van Delle (sp?). Sunday we had a nice time at Covington for their Pavilion Fund raising. They are getting ready for the Finn Music Fest on the Fortchuly. (July 4th musicfest.)

Right up close to the camera are two flags. It appears that the flag on the left is an older 48 star flag. History is still flying in da UP!

I have been praying that the reverence of the Memorial Day holiday would return to this land. A prayer that the living may figure out that this is more than a day off and a time to light the BBQ. A time to remember not only our dead, but also our history. For if we forget our history, we are destined to repeat the same old mistakes over again.

I love you folks up there. Thank you for keeping the UP wonderful and providing a place on the web like this one.

Bless God and May He bless you!

Sorry. It is late. I cannot tell my right from my left. The flag on the right appears to be the 48 star flag.
