An un-named MTU graduate wets his whistle after a big day over the weekend, finally earning that sheepskin. (We know it's just spring water he's guzzling, right?) The view was captured by Jon Anderson, who was one of the first guest Pasty Camists on these pages years ago. You just might run into Jon at Copper World if you're in Calumet this summer.

Well, after an extra day in Pennsylvania last week, and some sights in Delaware and New Jersey over the weekend, I'm headed to the big city and the long island today. When I get up, before I get back on the road, I'll catch up the Sightings page - - but, I'm going to have to stock up on some blue ink.
Good night from New Jersey and good morning from da U.P. trip notes nj

Looks like Dave Ohman to me.

If that is spring water it would be clearer than it is! I know the UP produces much cleaner water that that!!!

Congratulations to all the graduates!!

Anyone take pic's of the waves on Lake Superior yesterday? I would think the wind would have made for spectacular surf pics crashing up on the beaches.

The unnamed Tech student is Josh Willoughby. He actually graduates in the fall...oh and for the record it was Mountain Dew.

According to todays online edition of the DMG, an eight mile section of M26 between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor was closed due to torrential rains. Is the damage bad, or are the roads reopened? (sorry this did not have anything to do with todays picture, but I am curious)

By Marsha, Genesee on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 03:11 pm:

There is a surf picture on George Hite's Eagle Harbor web.

By Michigan on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 03:41 pm:

That for sure isn't Mountain Dew as i drink it an it look nothing like it an they have a lot of Drinker from Up there

By Paul, Calumet on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 04:14 pm:

Carole,

The eight mike section between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor wasn't too bad. However the I'm sure the Road Commisson is busy today! Garden City Pond (or river I'm not sure what it's called) was over the road making it nearly impassable. I'm not sure if the stretch is reopened or not though. The Eagle River Falls were roaring last night as was the big lake.

Vernor's, maybe?

By Paul, Calumet on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 05:26 pm:

I was there when the picture was taken. It is Mountain Dew, although Vernor's isn't a bad substitute.

By Jeff Laitila, Japan on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 08:39 pm:

I can't believe that 9 years have passed since I myself graduated from Tech.

Where does the time go?

Dang, I'm starting to get old! When did that happen?

^_^

By Ken from da UP on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 11:44 pm:

Must be the sunset behind the bottle that makes the Dew look different. I thought it looked like Vernor's myself. It is a pop bottle, isn't it?
Looks like nice weather for the next few days. Ken and Mimi will be at Lakeview and Lakeside to get the graves ready for Memorial Day. 'Member when it was called Decoration Day?

i would asume that a graduate would be 21yr's or older? as a non-native U.P. er. I have been up there every yr. for the last 50yr's and have meet very few yoopers who at that age (or older) would not celebrate with out a pop with foam on top. great site. great pics. it gaves me a lift when i am not up there.

Barley Pop!

By R. Olson, Hancock on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 - 07:26 pm:

It could be Mountain Dew: Code Red or any
other variation of the brand (and there's a ton
of them).
