One of the things I've noticed on my travels is the scarcity of phone booths all over the country. I guess cell phones have made them almost obsolete. This one found in the U.P. by Z-Man certainly hasn't seen much action lately, except the winged type.

Visited 2 favorite historical sites in Pennsylvania on Thursday: Gettysburg and Valley Forge. The freedom we enjoy and often take for granted, did not come without struggles, and those solemn places remind us of that.
Good night from Pennsylvania and good morning from da U.P. trip notes pa

Mmmm looks like the Z-Man and Donn think a lot alike in photo selection. Is this taken at Prickett Dam alonside Silver Mountain?

Donn

Oh My! My luck I would have to use this phone booth because my cell phone's battery is always dead when I need it most.....

By Peter Goniea, Mich on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 07:49 am:

Clark kent would be in big trouble if he chose
that booth to change!!! :-)))

By Doug, Wixom MI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 10:15 am:

Well... atleast the phone book would still be there.

By LIZ, Pinckney, MI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 11:01 am:

Donn -- A phone booth at Prickett Dam?! That just doesn't sound right.

By www.deyampert.com on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 11:05 am:

Yup, the UP is a remarkable place where anything is possible sometimes with Duck Tape.

Donn

Ouch! E.T. no phone home.
Hey, Mr. Charlie- Does anyone have a good shot of the Huron Mountains from the top of Calumet Hill or thereabouts anywhere? I was just thinking how breathtaking that sight is on a clear day. It's kinda hard to stop the car and take a picture on the highway. What's the best place to view them from up on the hill? Anyone got a favorite road to see them from? I know there's a good spot out towards Golf Course Road. (I think that's its name. That's what we always called it as kids.)

Thanks, Kathleen in Maryland

To bad about the demise of the pay phone. I'll take a land line anyday. The transmision is far superior and if one has a security concern there is no contest. What ever goes out into the ether can be picked up by anyone.

By Limar summer U.P.ers on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 12:12 pm:

I know there is an old phone booth on the east
side of M35, between Perkins and Rock, right
next to a pond. Could this be the one?

By Kathy, Lapeer, MI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 01:06 pm:

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE BRIDGE CAM, THE BOTTOM HALF IS AN OFF COLOR. IS IT ME OR DO OTHERS SEE IT TOO?

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO MY MOM, RITA STOPEL, WHO LIVES IN HANCOCK AND MY SISTER ALICE,WHO LIVES IN MILWAUKEE. I WISH I COULD BE IN HANCOCK RIGHT NOW TO SEE THEM BOTH AS MY SISTER IS VISITING FOR MOTHER'S DAY. XOXOXO

By Lisa, WI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 02:22 pm:

I think that phone booth between Perkins and
Rock is gone. I know which one you mean,
but haven't noticed it in a while.

By Marsha, Genesee & Aura on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 03:16 pm:

Kathleen of Maryland: The best view of the Huron Mts. is up close and personal. I like traveling south on Townline Rd. south of Aura in the Abbaye Peninsula. You can even drive a good distance up Mt. Arvon and hike the rest. On the way home you can visit nearby Silver River Falls on Skanee Rd.

By Rachel, MI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 04:35 pm:

Wow!! Such a great picture. I know I would never get close to a nest if it could be helped. Too many stingers. Where exactly was it taken?

By The Z-Man Ontonagon , MI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 04:45 pm:

The photo was taken by Pricket dam. Donn's footprints were all over the area.

By Luanne Dickeyville, WI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 04:49 pm:

Kathy Lapeer

It's not just you. When I click onto the big picture of the bridge cam the bottom half is discolored.

By Onetangogolf on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 05:14 pm:

I have no problem with the Bridge Cam image.
05/09/16:59 was the date and time.

By Luanne Dickeyville, WI on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 06:20 pm:

Yeah, you're right it is coming up okay for me now on the bridge cam @ 18:14. It wasn't earlier.

By Troll Diva on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 06:36 pm:

and that is why I have a cell phone and a car phone charger... LOL

By Julie Beck on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 09:49 pm:

Donn's footprints may have been all over but the tire tracks of the Gary Beck mobile which carried Donn there will remain etched in the sand forever. Great place for photos, as we look forward to treasured photos from throughout the Copper Country.

By www.deyampert.com on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 10:12 pm:

I'll be back hopefully with Mr. Beck guiding me over those deepest darkest trails of the lake and the Silver Mountain. Maybe a compass and an extra can of gas will see us through the next adventure. Dont forget the peanut butter.

Only on this Website could a page be devoted to a Telephone Booth with a Hornet's Nest on it... and actually be fasinating to read!!!!

By Cousin Jack on Saturday, May 10, 2003 - 12:40 am:

Wow...that closeup of Superman's hornet's nest looks suspiciously like a muddy tornado. Put your decoder ring back on, Toivo. A new American record 276 tornadoes this week(or twirled dark corn tassels as we call them here in the Upper Midwest's "Pop Secret" country).
Clue #2, Blue(bringing it all home to some subterranean homesick blues):
"It doesn't take a weatherman to tell which way the wind is blowin'"

GO MN WILD!

Go call it at the buzzer.
