Kelly Wenberg emailed a few shots of current Keweenaw conditions, including the big boat. (Side note: I know a lot of folks thought Taka Aoki was a girl's name, but - - want to know a secret? I don't know if Kelly Wenberg is a girl or a guy!) Nice shots, anyhow, Kelly.

If you're new to Pasty Cam, the regular host Charlie is still recovering from hernia surgery (exciting, I'm sure), while yours truly is still traveling out here in the heartland, dialing into Pasty.NET wherever I go. Staying near DeSoto Wildlife Refuge. These folks are really big into mushroom picking out here. Reminds me when clumsy Eino and me were out pickin mushrooms, when outta da blue he kicks over my bucket. Which only goes to prove: bad company corrupts good morels.
Good night in Nebraska and good morning from da U.P. trip notes ne

I can see what being on the road too long can do to a guy!
Thanks, Toivo, for the good groan, and KW for the pics.

Great shots Kelly. Thanks for sharing them. Are you going to make it to any track meets this spring? Have a wonderful birthday.

By Living here now on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 09:44 am:

Toivo, How are you planning to continue after SD? May we suggest coming across Iowa to the Mississippi and then all the way down along the Mighty Miss. You'll be able to take in at least eight states along the way down. Such exciting ports as Dubuque IA, Galena Il, St. Louis MO, Memphis TN, New Orleans LA, and many other nice places. Come see us here in the heartland, like all the politicians do every four years. In the past 6 months we've seen George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Senators' Lieberman, Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards, Dean, Harkins, Daschle.....they all seem to like to glad hand it here. We are oh so friendly. We'd like to see you too.

Beautiful pictures, Kelly. Great to see that the ice is finally going. Will be up there in another 7 weeks and it is a little tough fishing on the inland lakes with the ice still there.

By Mr. Wheatman, South end on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 01:37 pm:

Kudos on the fine shot indeed. As the snow levels commence to wane, it inaugurates an augment to the spirit. A brief retreat from the advancement of spring later in the week will not quell the festive disposition at this juncture. Keep the smiles on and the doldrums contained.

Is that a wave I see or ice? When do the freighters start shipping again?

By watching the freighters go by on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

As soon as the ice in the St Mary's River is open.

Happy Birthday Kelly (Kelby?)Nice pictures. Great to see some commerce going on.

By Steve the Troll on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 08:14 pm:

I believe we should take up a collection to keep Toivo "on the road" for months to come. His U.P. outlook on America might become the next "Travels with Charlie" bestseller. We could share in the proceeds and Toivo could keep us in stitches for months to come. We all know he will eventually return to the U.P. regardless, as they all do, so his return is guaranteed. Just a thought. TOIVO TOIVO TOIVO (Go Ducks)

Happy Birthday Kelly, nice pics.I just got back from a extra long weekend in Dollar Bay,& the temp was in the 70's when i arrived on thursday.Saw alot of folks clearing out the piled up snow out from under their clothlines. That's a lost art hanging cloths out on the line, that you don't see down here.I got me a new Packer's tee- shirt from Walmart while up there,to wear hear in Lion country.I had a great time up there, alittle taste of the Copper Country for a short time is better then none at all.
