At the beginning of this week we were hovering around -19°, on one of those days when your breath freezes and shatters on the ground. Today we were 70° warmer, as you can see on the clock here on Sharon Ave.

I happened to be in town for more information about the major fiber cable break which Ameritech suffered this morning. It was pretty frustrating not to be able to call Hancock from Calumet, or any long distance. Data lines and cell phones were all dead, too.

We're back 'on the air' again, in time to maintain our record of a picture a day from the U.P. And a pleasant day it turned out to be.

With the warm temps, I got to play in the water, building dams and rivers, to get the water flowing away from the front of the house, down the street and into the storm sewer. And all this in just a t-shirt! My son helped me chop the rivers into the ice and his friend said we looked like two little kids.

Sure was nice today, Charlie. 46 deg. here in Cornell, too. Didn't hear anything about a cable break. Was it an accident or the cold weather that caused it? Pytavay, Happy St. Urho's Day on March 16!! That's the day St. Urho chased the grasshoppers from the Finnish vinyards. :o) Don't forget to wear purple and green.

Hey, it was only 35deg. downstate here in St. Clair county today. Still got several inches of snow/ice and huge snowbanks like you guys get. Red-Wing Blackbirds, Grackles, Robins and others arriving now. they are headed your way!

Mary,You bring back fond memories! I used to love making " cricks" to drain the water away from our yard. Those warm Spring days felt so nice. The next time you "play" think of me!!

Was wondering what happened to my daily trip to the U.P. (vie cam picture). Sure glad you were able to come through with my daily fix...thanks for all of your hard work. I really enjoy this site. Bless everyone who has a part in sharing life, on a daily basis, in the U.P.

Searched the site all day today, wondered what happened. Have rain here in Central Ca. Was in the 70's most of last week. Even planted flowers last Sunday. My parents in Flatrock Mi. have been freezing. Hang in there, springs is on it's way.

Fran, GA,
The temps aren't supposed to be quite as warm, but still melting temps, so yes, I'll think of you when I go out to fix the "cricks" that were run over by cars yesterday!
