By
Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 07:53 am:

Brenda Leigh and her hubby Jim headed out into the Hiawatha National Forest to check out the winter woods recently. She said it was so fun and there were times when they wondered if they would make it on the unplowed service roads, but their trusty camo jeep pulled them through each time they were in a rough spot. Good thing, too, because it was in such a desolate area of the forest that there was no cell phone service, so if they had gotten stuck, it would have involved a long trek out to the main roads again.

Along the way they saw many deer tracks, beautiful winter woods scenes, a load of huge logs ready to be hauled and the most picturesque road, unplowed or not. So much beauty hidden in this U.P. forest.

There's a story behind the license plate in Brenda's last photo. She said that it was purchased at a garage sale years before she knew that they would be someday living right there, in the middle of Superior Hiawatha Land. So I guess moving there was meant to be. And in case you're wondering, yes, they do LOVE IT there!

Hope they took snowshoes just in case! :D

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 08:25 am:

Fun stuff again, Brenda!

By MarilynnB (Marilynnb) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 08:56 am:

Brenda, we LOVE your plate. We drive in our Jeep through the
Hiawatha all the way from M-28 to US2 often in good weather.
This winter, we're going to try it and see if it's plowed all the way.
Maybe we'll see you on the trail.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 08:57 am:

Wow! Glad you made it through, Brenda!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 09:02 am:

Nice pix! Years ago, my buddies and I would do the same thing...drive down rural roads in winter thru the snow, it was always an exciting mini-adventure.

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 09:05 am:

Brenda....AWESOME as usual!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 09:55 am:

I like that camo Jeep! That sure looks like a lot of fun....maybe that riding would shift my lower vertebrae's and I could cancel my 3rd back surgery next week the 18th!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 10:13 am:

Will keep you in thought and prayer, Janie.

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 10:43 am:

Brenda and Jim-1 Winter-0
Looks like a lot of fun. That's what I call putting Old Man Winter in his place.

By lookielu (Eyeswideshut) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 03:20 pm:

Why can't I see last week's pictures, instead I get the week before's pictures. What happened to Nov 30-Dec-6?

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 03:27 pm:

JT, you're becoming a pro at this...best wishes.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 03:47 pm:

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 08:11 pm:

Hey, LookieLu, thanks for the head's up about the bad links on the bottom of the main Cam page. Reload it and it should work for you (to see last week). Also I discovered I had not uploaded the correct Day in History for Dec 9. Click Here and hit reload or refresh if you see Sheriff Ron's message. It is about a famous Flying Finn :o)

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - 08:12 pm:

Well okay, but you have to buy me dinner first :-)

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 - 05:51 am:

Thanks for the story about Kolehmainen. We had a famous runner
in our family from the Covington area. Another flying Finn--Tauno
Nurmi, my great-aunt Esther's husband.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 - 03:59 pm:

That's interesting about the Flying Finn from UP there, Charlie, thanks for posting it last evening.
