MSP 1937 - Part II    ...click to play video

Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, April 13, 2014 - 08:03 am:

As you know if you joined us last week, the Michigan State Police mark their 97th anniversary this month, part of the Great Lakes State's response to World War I. The video above is Part II for the one we posted last Sunday.

Besides the firefighting scenes in the northern counties, and inspection of deer hunting permits in the woods, one scene that caught my eye was the punch cards being processed at headquarters. When I worked with those punch cards in the early '70's at University of Michigan, I thought they were a recent invention, maybe 10 years old. But the Michigan State Police (and probably other state offices) had been using them 40 years earlier.

Our hat's off to the men and women of the Michigan State Police during this anniversary month. Have a good week :o)

Charlie,
Those punched cards were used much earlier. They were used for the 1890 U.S. census.

Your busted! Does anyone else feel uneasy looking at the first pic? :-)

Their vehicles did look a little more menacing way back then.;-\

Thank them for their service.

A little creepy..........

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, April 13, 2014 - 11:43 am:

Yeah Alex, about the same feeling most folks get when they see the tax man coming! ;-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, April 13, 2014 - 12:07 pm:

I feel more secure with a policeman than I would with a tax man.:<

Greetings:

Does anyone know if the Michigan State Police cars were all painted royal blue back in 1937 like they are today?

I know that some are painted factory colors and clearly unmarked except when the trunk lid is open.
