The first month of 2014 has already gone by, which brings us to our long standing tradition of slowing down at the end of the month and taking this last day to remember those that have gone on before us. This month we recall:

Richard Bonds
Reed Harjala
Walt Laverdiere
Dr. David Nara
Denise Palosaari
Ray Rantamaki
Servicemen and women who have given their all

Please feel free to add the names of friends and loved ones that you would like to remember on these pages.

Special thank you to Sally Beaudette. One year ago she brought this very view for our end of month memorial, and today returns with the same beautiful scene... with a bit more snow.

Ray Rantamaki was a good friend, and a resident at Still Waters during the years we started Pasty Central. Here's a picture of him with the residents peeling the veggies. One of only two men in the picture, he's the closest one to the camera:

Two great photos today ~ one of beauty and one of beauty and wisdom!! Thank you Sally, Mary and Charlie.
Remembering the beautiful memories I have of loved ones who've gone before ~ my sweet husband, Frank, my mama, Macie, my daddy, Luther, my sister, Marjorie and my dear friend, Violet. All now resting in the arms of the Lord.

Remembering our mom Jean, gone a year already. I still start to give her a call almost every day. She loved her times on the Keeweenaw and had the piles of rocks to prove it! We miss her adventurous spirit every day....

I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Mary Frye, American poet (1904 - 2004)

May you all rest in peace.

Curious...are the pasties still made this way or have you gone to a commercial type setting? Just wondering how they're produced now. I know it takes me half a day for me to make a mere 6 or 8 pasties so it boggles my mind at the thought of producing so many for shipment. Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks!

Remembering my Uncle Paul Backstrom of Florida Location who passed on January 15, which was the birthday of my Dad, Wilbert "Kelly" Jonas, gone since 1965. Missing my good friend Reed too, rock and roll in the copper country won't be the same without him....

By David Harjala (Deharjala) on Thursday, February 6, 2014 - 12:30 pm:

My brother, Reed. In his last CD, Eternal Moments, he sang to me
"brother do not worry" because he "knew where he was going",
"where the streets are made of gold"...... and I am so thankful - I
know where he is........what a reunion it will be when we can sing
together again!

By lookielu (Eyeswideshut) on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 - 01:58 pm:

Reed you gave a lot of us sooooo many memories! Dodge Street, Fat Chance, and all the other versions of your music. Rock On!!! We will eat pasties and babble on and think of you.
