Last week we jumped back a few decades for the eclipse on Brockway, and shared an update of the current status of this gem of the Keweenaw. This weekend the gift shop you see in the top photo was demolished.

Rick Anderson's photo was apparently taken more than 10 years ago, because that's how long the Pasty.NET relay has been on the gift shop, and it does not appear in this aerial shot. Kevin Henriksen's picture of the signs is how it must look tonight. We arrived home from a long road trip tonight, in time to publish the Pasty Cam before our 15+ year record could expire, thanks to an extra hour in our day. As I type this from our cozy Eagle River living room, the wind is howling outside, hitting us from the west on its journey to Brockway. There it will spin the wind generator that powers the relay, enabling the connection over which these words flow.

Edie and I were actually away for 2 weeks, traveling through Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa and back again to the U.P. It's a big country out there, but there really is no place like home.

Have a good week :o)

Charlie: I hope you and Edie had a good trip and I'm glad you made
it safely home. I'll have to drive up Brockway next summer and take
a look at the changes. The view, thank goodness, will be the same
with or without the gift shop.

Glad you had a good trip Edie & Charlie! Imagine
there was a visit or 2 with family members in there!

I probably missed it, but why did they demolish the
gift shop?

Beautiful! ...and by the looks of those signs there was just a slight breeze up there.

The gift shop was in poor shape , and the needed repairs would have been too costly.

Glad you're back home, Charlie & Edie! You're right ~ it is a 'big country' out there, especially when travelling all those 'wide open' states. Have crossed all of them except Idaho.

This afternoon Mike Musiel, our resident technical guru in Copper Harbor, sent these photos of the demolition in progress. It was a bit windy, and you can see some of the insulation and roofing being blown around:
