Last weekend some future Shoebox Memories were captured by Dick and Genie Mintken at this year’s Music Fest in Gay. In the top photo Frank Stubenrach strikes a pose in front of the old Gay School, getting ready for the event, and the reverse direction shows the crowd gathering. That’s the Gay Smokestack in the left of the second picture, and the Community Building on the right. Ron Lahti the Singing Sheriff is in the next shot, who appears to be accompanied by Joe Kezele and Andrea Braun. Finally a whole raft of Keweenaw Historical Society members served up the grub to make the day complete.

Later today we’ll upload some more shots of Sherman Township’s new School House Park pavilion and some views inside the historic old school, so check back later.

Have a good week :o)

Looked like a fun time for all.
I love old school buildings....unfortunately too many of them get torn down.

I like it...schoolhouse rock, and it looks like great weather for it. Kick out the jams and jellies.

Vollwerth's on the grill?

By Tom (Tom) on Sunday, July 14, 2013 - 12:58 pm:

Hope to be in the UP in a few weeks. There will be some Vollwerths'roasted at the fire pit!
Didn't think Janie and her crew knew about Vollwerth's.

Dr. Nat and I are just looking forward to getting UP there next week where we don't have to be trapped inside because of the weather. Currently, it's 88 but the heat index makes it feel like over 100.... BLAH!!!!

Capt Paul,

Have you been to the latest location of the A.E.
Seaman Mineral Museum? I stopped there to check it
out and ended up spending the whole afternoon. They
are running half price admission all summer.

I used to go all the time when it was in the top
floor of the now gone Hotchkiss Hall (old EE
building)
