Nice picture of a pileated woodpecker. Should feature one weekly so as to remember how they look.........

Yes so true Frankie JL! Here in Iowa several species of woodpeckers are native, the Pileated is not one of them. I have never seen one until they were featured on Pasty.

I like woodpeckers as long as they stay away from my vinyl siding upstairs.:<
Must've been a 'blackout' between my area and the UP during mid-morning. I was on here around 9:00am but couldn't access PastyCam or John Dee after that until just now. We had a storm pass through earlier but now the sun's shining.

Every time these birds are featured I ask the same question--without any answers---how do you pronounce their name? is it "pie leet ed or pill e ated? Any takers?

Your second try is the right one. Pill-e-ated,
I'm in Cornell, here in da UP and we have some of them on my 40. They just tear the old Basswood trees apart. Not only chips, they take
chunks out. Have a good one.
