Connie Mandoli and her hubby, Dino, were off exploring in the Western portion of the U.P. recently and made a stop to check out what's happening at Bond Falls. What they found is quite scenic, for sure and Connie captured it perfectly. These pictures take you right there and I bet if you listen closely, you'll hear the water rushing and splashing all around. ;->

If it's running this well with the snow still surrounding the falls, I can only imagine what it will look and sound like when the "real" Spring runoff begins.

We sure are blessed with beauty here in the U.P., no matter what season it is, you can always find something that will take your breath away. Get out there and enjoy it!

Thank you for the beautiful full waterfall photos! I'm curious, based on the third photo, is Bond Falls another man-made dam? Those rocks, petrified wood, or whatever they are, look evenly spaced across the top of the falls.

Spectacular winter photos this spring day! Have to admit--there is great beauty in our wintery weather!

Regarding those evenly spaced rocks across the Bond Falls. I have seen those in a number of streams in Iowa and they were done years ago by the CCC or some similar agency. back during the great depression as make work projects. At some sites they were stepping stones to cross a creek.

Bond Falls is a natural waterfall, but it has been enhanced by a nearby dam built by the Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO). There is a rest-area park below the dam and waterfall, from which the falls can be admired. The Ontonagan River and Bond Falls Flowage are separately stocked with brook trout

According to what my father told me some seventy-odd years ago, the CCCs installed the "stones" across the top of the falls to even out the flow of water acroos the width of the falls. Prior to their placement, the falls became a trickle down one side of a pile of rocks during the summer months and many people were disappointed after driving miles on winding, dusty gravel roads to see the falls and the kids would ask where the falls were! I have a vague remembrace of the original, but a fairly good memory of them being newly installed.

Spring, when the water is high, is a great time to visit your favorite falls. As a kid, living in Copper City, one of my favorites, was the Queen Anny Falls. It was located just outside of Copper City on the Bessonin (sic) farm.
