On Thursday morning this past week Edie and I had breakfast with friends in Lakeland, Florida, where the Detroit Tigers have had their Spring Training for the last 77 years. When we left the U.P. last Sunday, we drove past that historic baseball field in Baraga at Assinins (of which we made a little video) to kick off a two-week road trip around the Eastern U.S. (including delivery of 540 pasties to The Villages, Florida). In keeping with the subject of baseball, Walter and Theresa Sands sent us today's Shoebox Memory:

This is a photo my grandfather Matt Getzen had of the 1893 Baraga Baseball Team. The players were Joe Courtney, Dan McCarthy, Shepard, Daley, George Roach, Tom Nugent, Joe Gengrass, Rene Levy, Matt Smith, Davinport. Check out their equipment.
